I'm a big fan of the Paulaner brewery. So, being able to go to a Paulaner establishment while in Hamburg was very attractive to me, and I made several visits to this place while in Hamburg.
The atmosphere was a cross between your average pub and a Festzelt similar to those in Munich. So, it can range from pretty quiet to pretty loud depending on who's there.
They have most of Paulaner's brews on tap (no Salvator though). All were very tastey and fresh.
The food was about average. I tried the weisswurst; nothing outstanding. The selection of food was pretty standard for a Munich style beer garden.
I found the price to be a little high. 3.50 euro for a half is a little pricey compared to where I've been living in Germany. However, it seemed most things were a little more expensive in Hamburg, so I think this is pretty reasonable considering that.
Overall, a great place to check out if in Hamburg.
Note: It's very close to the Hauptbahnhof (directly across from the east exit).
