We’ve rounded up some great malts and hops for Hoppy Ki Yay IPA, our year round IPA. This straw colored ale is hopped with Columbus and Amarillo and rounded out by a mild body from the malts.

Look: It pours golden and clear with a white head. Head retention is very good.
Smell: It has a tropical fruit and citrus aroma. There are some grainy sweet qualities from the malt.
Taste: It has a candy like quality to it with some citrus, melon, and tropical elements in the fore front. It has a grainy sweetness to it.
Feel: It has a medium body and is quite smooth in the finish.
Overall, it is interesting with the candy like flavors and easy drinking due to the smoothness.

Poured from a can into a pint glass. Pours deep orange with a fluffy white head. Smells of earthy and piney hops. Tastes of citrus and piney hops. Beer is light bodied and easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, a very good beer.

Pours a hazy golden colour and a white head with lacing. Aroma's of wordt, stale hops, not too fresh probably. Retronasal it's sweetish/caramel, hoppy, bitterish, a bit herbal. Flavour is moderate sweet'n'bitter. Light medium bodied. Rather bitter finish.

On draught in a restaurant in Raleigh. A hazy golden-orange color with a thick, frothy head and lacing. The nose is fragrant with lots of citrus: lemon, grapefruit, and a whiff of tangerine and berry. There’s also resinous pine needles and floral hops. The taste opens with a strong blast of bitter pine and tart lemon and grapefruit rind. But what seals the deal is the sweet malty backbone. The flavors compliment each other very nicely. It features a thick, almost creamy mouthfeel with pleasant carbonation, and it drinks easily at 6.6% ABV. Overall, I’m impressed. This is a great example of a Southern style IPA. It has West Coast bitterness with slightly sweeter malt base.

Bought a single can at Harris Teeter in Rock Hill. Poured with little head, a hard yellow color. Smells strong, a harsh industrial, dank smell. First sip is overly bitter. I wonder if this really is an IPA. There's no citrus, no pine, and no floral taste whatsoever. All harsh, dank bitterness. If you've smelled a basement that was wet for months, you've tasted this beer. Not a fan.
