Poured a hazed mix of honey and peach colors, fluffy white head atop.Aromas were mainly of toasty wheat malt,a light tinge of clove came thru as well.Lighter flavors with more wheat flavors than many of the style,there is subtle clove and banana notes but not real big.Not a bad stab at the style,went down well yesterday in the heat down here.

Pours a pale golden-yellow color with lots of haze; opaque pretty much all the way though, except for maybe the very edges. A thin white head forms momentarily before it wisps away into nothing. Pretty standard looking hefeweizen, although maybe a slightly brighter shade of yellow than most.

I take a whiff and ugh, what the hell am I smelling? Something very weird and off-putting caught me off guard and took me a bit by surprise. Almost like a wet dog, or sweaty socks. Funky, but not an acceptable "brett" or "barnyard" kind of way. Funky as in old or mildew-ish. Lots of sulfur and yeast lay behind that weird-ass smell. Tons of yeast. That characteristic mint, clove, bubblegum combo is there, but it's almost too powerful, not to mention doesn't work well with the other strange aromas.

Luckily it doesn't taste nearly as bad as it smells, although it's still far from impressive. Mild astringency up front - not a tartness, just a small bite that grabs the back end of the tongue for a moment. Lightly fruity and sweet with some apple skins and lemon zest floating about. The yeast is also a bit lighter at first, but gets heavier towards the end, and even heavier when the beer has time to warm up. Light hop bitterness stings around three-quarters of the way through, but dissipates quickly without a trace. The aftertaste leaves your mouth coated with the yeast, and a bit of clove and bread. Thin-medium body, decent carbonation.

Yeesh, this one was strange. The smell was all over the place and unfortunately not too enjoyable. The taste was much better, yet still wasn't anything to rave about. Thanks to Jeff for sharing this, but I'll be passing this one up if I ever see it again.

Appearance: I poured the beer from a bottle into a pint glass, and the color was orangey-yellow. It was slightly cloudy. There was no head to be found. It didn't look too appealing, but I don't go much off of appearances anyway. ;)

Smell: There is a strong banana smell, which was slightly unexpected, and a hint of a yeast bread scent. Pleasant, but not my favorite.

Taste: Apparently hefeweizens aren't my thing. The taste wasn't too bad, but I like my beer to be either heavy or light, and this one was somewhat in-between. The banana flavor is completely lost other than what can be smelled while drinking it, and what is left is a yeasty, slightly bitter, slightly sweet flavor. It's not terrible, but it's not my favorite, either. Overall, I'd say it's just "okay."

Mouthfeel: Almost like water, the mouthfeel left a little to be desired. The way it goes down is fairly smooth, but I wish there was a little bit more dryness in this beer.

Overall, the yeast smell and flavors took me off guard. On the bottle, this beer is noted as a beer with "a rich, banana-clove nose and a refreshing dry finish." The banana was definitely there, but the clove nose and refreshingly dry finish seem to have gotten a little lost along the way.

Tried Shotgun Betty at the debut tour of LoneRider and, to my knowledge, the first public tapping of this beer--it doesn't get any fresher than this!

Pours a hazy golden color with a finger of head and not a lot of lacing. Great smell of ripe bananas with some clove--classic Hefe. Mouthfeel is nice and smooth. What I really like about the flavor is the very up-front banana/clove taste imparted by the yeast, but then the finish is a good caramely malt flavor. This could really hit the spot on a hot summer day in NC.

A hefe's a bit of a curious choice for a brewery's 'flagship' beer, but this is a really good first effort by the guys at LoneRider and I'm looking forward to trying more of their stuff in the future...

A thickly clouded Hefeweizen, the color's in the darker range but still a shade of yellow and appropriate for the style. A fizzy white head struggles and doesn't last for more than a few seconds. It does have continuous bubbling, but it doesn't help to constitute more than a bit at the edges, and it doesn't really leave much lacing to speak of. I smell it coming out of the bottle, so I'm not too worried.
The aroma gives off all the banana and clove I could hope for under a backbone of wheat that doesn't interfere too much with letting the yeast do what it does, and the flavor does very much the same. Gentle black pepper spiciness is still able to come out nicely as well. Not too dusty with just a bit of earth to it, there's a good balance also well established, a feat required to be performed by means other than hops.
The body almost reaches medium. There's crispness all the way. It's a bit smooth but overall the edges could be smoothed out in the mouthfeel.

Beautiful. After the pour-swirl-pour, an abundant, fluffy, bubbly, cloud-like snow-white head is formed. It sits on top of a hazy peach/sunset yellow-gold color. Nears perfection, in terms of appearance.

Would that the aroma was as good. It's not bad, but doesn't do justice to the hefeweizen style. Rather than banana and clove, I get a musty, almost soggy sort of fruit aroma, like mushy peach and pear. That sort of soft wheat smell comes in too, but ultimately it smells like any number of average U.S. wheat ales.

More pear/peach succulence in the taste, in fact, quite a bit of that, and while the yeast is present, it's a little less nutty/earthy/clove-like than those great German hefes. Not really getting much banana either, but this still carries a flavor that stands on its own and benefits from not being placed in a specific category. It's certainly bright, enjoyable, and flavorful. Just a light bit of herb and sweet spice character in the finish. Somewhat dry for a "hefe" and almost puckery.

Very nice feel here, plenty round and creamy, with just the right measure of carbonation to top it off. Slick, smooth, silky. Nice.

This would have been more acceptable if they'd NOT called it a "hefeweizen" on the label. I think there's a big difference between an authentic hefe and an American wheat, which this is more like. "American wheat" is not even a bad thing, but if they're gonna call this a "hefeweizen," I'll judge it by that standard. And it's no Weihenstephaner or Franziskaner hefeweizen. That said, it's a good-drinking U.S. wheat. I'll look forward to the others that are left from the 6-pack I picked up.

On tap at Fork and Barrel in Raleigh

Pours a hazy gold with 1/4" head. Nose offers clove with a little yeast. Initially this beer tastes predominantly of clove and wheat, but as the beer warm clove, wheat, yeast, and a mild banana begin to blend nicely. The beer is light bodied and mildly carbonated. A great offering!

I have had this beer in the past...maybe a year ago...at the beach...while it was a muggy August evening....in South Carolina....and it was the perfect beer at the perfect moment....but....
It was not as good this time. It was not bad at all, just not the same experiance I remember at the beach.
It pours a little thin and the head does disappear rather quickly. I would expect a little more body to accomidate the abv. It was a little hazy from the yeast sediment, which was nice.
It is quite refreshing-sticking to the Bavarian clove, minty, slightly ripened banana and slight bubble gummy flavors-although not as pronounced as I feel it should be...the flavor is kinda of like the body and mouthfeel---needs a little more "umph!"
I like this beer but for the $8.47 price tag....it is hard to justify the "thinness" to price ratio.
I rate it a 3.3
