I have had this beer in the past...maybe a year ago...at the beach...while it was a muggy August evening....in South Carolina....and it was the perfect beer at the perfect moment....but....
It was not as good this time. It was not bad at all, just not the same experiance I remember at the beach.
It pours a little thin and the head does disappear rather quickly. I would expect a little more body to accomidate the abv. It was a little hazy from the yeast sediment, which was nice.
It is quite refreshing-sticking to the Bavarian clove, minty, slightly ripened banana and slight bubble gummy flavors-although not as pronounced as I feel it should be...the flavor is kinda of like the body and mouthfeel---needs a little more "umph!"
I like this beer but for the $8.47 price tag....it is hard to justify the "thinness" to price ratio.
I rate it a 3.3

Appearance 3.0: Certainly nothing special as far as appearance goes. Attractive golden color, but pitiful head. I mean NOTHING formed. No lacing whatsoever. Like water.
Smell 3.5: Now we're talking. Cloves, bananas and...a deep, cloying malt. I'm hoping for an Oberon-type taste.
Taste 3.0: Oh, mama. What a letdown. Front is somewhat yeasty like all good hefes, but the middle...bleargh. Pure water. Finish is also a disappointment: just a watered-down semi-sweet maltiness. A missed opportunity.
Mouthfeel 2.0: Awful. Watery (hate to use that word again) and flat. WAY off the style.
Overall 3.0: Ok...I guess. There are some taste elements that are on the mark for the style, but there is SO much way off the mark here that it is just a hot mess in a pint glass. Weak, flat, no bubbles, whatever you want to call it, "Shotgun Betty" is one firearm that should have stayed in the gun safe. Not recommended.
