Pours a light citrus gold color, whit head.

Smells of light esters and wheat malts.

Flavor is wheaty with citrus and coriander notes.

Medium body with light carbonation.

Pretty decent and tasty hefe, worth trying, among the better American hefes I've had.

This beer is amazing. I'm guessing the only reason it has a B+ is that there aren't many girls on this site (who often love the stuff), and it isn't what I consider a typical Hefeweizen. It is a little sweet in a different way. You think Blue moon is ok? Blue Moon sucks balls compared to Shotgun Betty. It is great, great, great to have around in a kegerator, and if you get the keg from Lone Rider, it is pretty much cheaper than anything in the area. Even if you are from out of town and have to pay a premium- get a keg of this beer if you like Hefeweizens, or your girl does.

Wheat beers in general are not my favorite styles, but I can safely say that this is one of the best, if not the best, that I have had in this style. It is a local beer from North Carolina, and I had it on tap at Chili's.
At first, I was very skeptical to try it, but with the limited selection they had, I went for it. They garnished it sort of gay, with a frosted mug and a wedge of lime and orange. I thought I had made a bad decisions. However, once I got past that, the taste was amazing with a good mouthfeel, aroma, and taste. I would highly recommend this beer, especially if it can be tried on tap.

I had this off the tap at the luxury box in Raleigh, NC.
a. Hazy, opaque straw. Some head no lace.
s. Wheat and malt scent.
t. Crisp and wheats. Some citrus to it. Mild maltiness.
M. Refreshing and carbonated.
D. Very nice mildness to it. Goes down easy. Fine wheat, thought not special.

I get this on tap every time I visit 16 Taps here in Wilmington (soon to be Pour House Music Hall).

It pours a hazy, heavy, faded orange amber color. Foam laced head sticks around throughout the pint.

A little citrus, clove, peach. I've yet to try a hefeweizen that I didn't love. I like to keep it regional with this one.

On tap at Fork and Barrel in Raleigh

Pours a hazy gold with 1/4" head. Nose offers clove with a little yeast. Initially this beer tastes predominantly of clove and wheat, but as the beer warm clove, wheat, yeast, and a mild banana begin to blend nicely. The beer is light bodied and mildly carbonated. A great offering!

Poured on tap into a shaker pint glass at the brewery in Raleigh NC.

Your classic Hefe is presented with a cloudy orb glowing lemon yellow with wonderful dark gold hues on the edges. Simple white creamy head. Looks great.

Brings the classic hefe sense, fresh banana ripe and peeled, with hints of clove. Very LARGE nose on this it's very obvious and aggressive.

It feels like a large beer is coming, but even for a hefe on taste this is very light. Light bodied fruit sense and esters, kind of wet with an airy clove finish.

Overall still a very solid beer, but it seems to smell better than it tastes if you ask me. Nobody though, is complaining.

Pours a very hazy orange yellow color with a thick white head and a little bit of lacing. Smells of strong wheat, orange, and a good funk. Tastes of strong wheat, malts, orange, more citrus, and a little yeast and funk. Mouthfeel is medium and carbonation is high. I really liked this one.

A- Hazy honey. Really disappointed by the lack of head retention on this one. Fizzed out much too qiuckly.
S- Wheat with some peppery notes, and just a touch of banana.
T- The beginning is a pleasant banana flavor but this is almost immediately overwhelmed by a peppery spice flavor. Not bad, but it lacks balance between the phenols and the spice.
M- Relatively full bodied for style. Moderate carbonation.
D- Just an average hefe, in my book. It has all the right parts (except head retention), but it doesn't balance the banana/bubblegum with the spice right.

Hazy straw color. Thick white head retains well. Minimal lacing. Smells somewhat of ripe banana, but more spice and grain than phenols. Some banana, but more spicy than banana. Some vanilla and lemon flavors, but a good spice character is definitely predominant. Effervescent carbonation. Dry finish. A very good hefe. I don't know if it's as world-class as it is made out to be, but it's still a very good beer.

I have not been a huge Hefe fan since a bad experience passing the a boot filled with Hefe several years ago. However, since I have matured and am now a refined drinker I thought I would give it a go, glad I did. Had this on tap at home over the summer. Great appearance, good smell, good taste, good mouthfeel, all you would expect and more. This was the perfect summer beer.

decided to go the full round with lonerider and try a couple of new ones as well while i was at it. a nice hazy yellow pour with a good bit of carbonation coming up towards the surface. a smooth and even lacing that permeated throughout the glass.

aroma is very faint, lots of wheat, hints of light fruit and touches of earthy notes, but again nothing really standing out to me as being different then any other in the style. light flavor but as it warms it starts to come around. nice touches of banana and light bready malts make up the back bone here with a clean and crisp flavor that seems to bounce off the palate. smooth and lean finish leaves you thirsty for more.

not a bad offering at all, just needs a little bit more of a punch.

On tap at Acme Restaurant, poured a cloudy yellow. Nice frothy, tall white head. Medium body. Hints of banana and clove with a strong wheat taste. Carbonation was just right. A smooth and subtle aftertaste. Cool and refreshing on a hot summer day. Very drinkable.

Poured a hazed mix of honey and peach colors, fluffy white head atop.Aromas were mainly of toasty wheat malt,a light tinge of clove came thru as well.Lighter flavors with more wheat flavors than many of the style, there is subtle clove and banana notes but not real big.Not a bad stab at the style, went down well yesterday in the heat down here.

A: Evenly coudy golden yellow color. Poured a 1 finger coarse, stark white head with fair retention. Laced in broken rings.

S: Pleasant bready wheat malt. Muted banana and clove notes with some lemon zest in the background

T: Very consistent with aroma. Even, noble hop bitter adds a cleansing bite to the crips, refreshing finish.

M: Medium body. Ample carbonation. Crisp and refreshing finish; great for a warm, spring afternoon.

D: Very drinkable. Refreshing. Calssic for teh style.

Had on tap at the brewery. Pours so cloudy it's opaque, and has a light orange yellow color with a small white head and looks like guava juice...looks really inviting and smells of yeast, wheat, lemon, orange peel, cinnamon and light spices.

Really tasty as it tastes just like it smells... yeast, wheat, lemon, orange peel, cinnamon, clove, some banana, light spices, grass, and a little skunky whiff which I couldn't figure out end it. Decent lacing with a lot of sediment that lasts throughout the pour and always seems like a fresh fruit shake in the glass. This was a heavy beer for this style, but it captured al the flavor well and still went down very smooth and easy.

A great hefeweizen that's packed with flavor and very enjoyable...it breaks the mold and is one of the best hefeweizen's that I've ever had! A definite recommendation.

If you are in the Raleigh-Durham area, seek this brewery out. It's right by the airport and the guys that own and run the place were great to everyone at the brewery bar. A wonderful experience.

Sampled on tap at Peak City Grill in Apex, NC.

A hazy straw colored beer with a moderate white head. This beer has lots of aroma and flavor. I haven't had much Lonerider before tonight but this is certainly a welcome addition to the Raleigh beer scene. It's flavorful, tasty and easy to drink.

On-tap - Imperial pint at The Pit, Raleigh, NC

Served up a very good hazy orange with a very nice, thick head that was well retained. The head pretty well dissolved.

The aroma was a little lighter than expected, but still a very good Hefe aroma, sweet with noticeable banana and clove, but only in the background. There was also another hint of something sweet, almost candy like, but could not really put my finger on it.

The taste is really good, follows the nose but also has the yeast that one expects from a good Hefe. This is probably the best domestic Hefe that I have tried to date.

Lighter medium body with very good carbonation and very refreshing. The beer is extremely smooth with exceptional drinkability.

Served at the Marriott in downtown Durham.

Pours a nice cloudy yellow gold. Two-finger head adorns the glass and stays for a nice long visit.

Big banana-clove nose as anticipated. Lonerider delivers on that expectation, though. The bartender says "hope you like bananas" when he brings the beer over.

Very rich, thick taste and feel. Slightly bitter in the finish with a faint lemon feel. Very nice desert beer.

A little chewy for a hefe, but not bad. A little thick to drink more than one.

Poured from a keg in the brewery by one of the owners. This German-style hefeweizen appeared cloudy yellow, slightly more yellow than I expected, but very pleasing to the eye.

The aroma was of bananas up front with clove and bubblegum coming through after I was able to get past the initial banana.

The mouth feel was medium light; right on for what I look for in a hefeweizen, with the proper amount of carbonation.

The taste was similar to the aroma: banana phenol balanced with a nice wheat malt character.

Overall, a very enjoyable beer.

Like some of the others I questioned a hefeweizen as a year round beer, but this looks like a winner. Nice cloudy yellow color, with a pleasant nose of bubblegum, cloves, and bananas. The predominant taste for me was bubblegum with banana and some cloves on the back end. This was an extremely refreshing beer without being too light. Just a great example of the style. Enjoyed the beer and the people at Lone Rider were very friendly and helpful as well. Excellent

Shotgun Betty is a very cloudy light peach toned body with plenty of esters in the nose that scream banana. The clove is there just in the background playing its part well. There's also a slight bit of gummyness to the nose as well. The taste is matched with a slight spice character as well. The mouthfeel stands right at about medium with slightly lighter carbonation than some heffes. Overall a great beer that will most likely please the masses and beer geeks alike.

Tried Shotgun Betty at the debut tour of LoneRider and, to my knowledge, the first public tapping of this beer--it doesn't get any fresher than this!

Pours a hazy golden color with a finger of head and not a lot of lacing. Great smell of ripe bananas with some clove--classic Hefe. Mouthfeel is nice and smooth. What I really like about the flavor is the very up-front banana/clove taste imparted by the yeast, but then the finish is a good caramely malt flavor. This could really hit the spot on a hot summer day in NC.

A hefe's a bit of a curious choice for a brewery's 'flagship' beer, but this is a really good first effort by the guys at LoneRider and I'm looking forward to trying more of their stuff in the future...

16oz serving on tap at the brewery. A nice hazy dark yellow with a thin diminishing head that leaves spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma is the expected sweet fruits, clove and bubblegum. The flavor is bubblegum up front with clove and banana present as well. The beer is light and crisp and quite refreshing, I imagine it would be even better on a hot summer day. This one was enjoyable, but I may have to update my review in the summer.
