First off, this beer is fantastic for a Pale Ale. It pours a nice hazy copper color and has a decent head. The smell is fairly strong floral hops with some malt. The flavor has a pleasant tip-of-the-tongue bit. The whole bitter hops thing lingers and it never really moves to sugary malt, which I welcome. You get a lot of earthy, floral malt up front without the heavy malt back end. The lack of sweetness makes the body seem pretty manageable; I’d definitely have a couple. Great local find.

12 oz bottle into a goblet.
A: Pours a clear copper color. The head is a finger high, with a white shade, maybe a hair off-white. Retention isn't amazing, and only a tiny ring of lacing is left on the glass.
S: Smells like a one-trick pony. The problem is, that one trick is caramel maltiness - urgh. Almost no citrus or tropical fruits, and very little pine, just toffee-laden, slightly nutty malts. While the maltiness is pulled off nicely enough, this just comes off like an amber instead of a pale. And that's not what I want.
T: Yep, the dominant flavor is caramel. Caramel, with lesser hints of toffee, marzipan, and a little nuttiness. Hops? Not here. No bitterness, no citrusy or piny flavors, no nothing. It's still within the best-by date, so it's fair game as far as I'm concerned. Frankly, this is a boring drink.
M: Well, it is relatively crisp - if nothing else, it makes the maltiness seem less imbalanced. That, and it's very well carbonated. In fact, the fizz bites the tongue firmly. I think I'll gladly take a slightly harsh fizz over an oppressively malty pale ale (which this would have been if not for the former).
O: Go into this expecting an amber and you might like it more. Since I expected - and wanted - a pale ale, I'm not really a fan. This is just a textbook pale ale that's completely 'safe' and 'mediocre', and it will not be a repeat purchase from yours truly.
