Had on tap during the brewery tour. Beautiful copper color, nice head and lace that lasted throughout drink. Really nice flavor, not overly hoppy but enough to give this pale ale some taste. Very nice representation of a West Coast pale ale. Mouthfeel is just right and drinkablity is great. Can't wait to have this as one of my summer tap beers.

On tap at Center City in Greensboro.Poured a deeper than expected amber/bronze with a well sustained white head atop,a nice mix piney hop and caramel malt in the nose, good balance.Flavors start out quite malty with the sweetish caramel and biscuit,a nice smack resiny hop really stands out in the finish,as I had more the hops really stood out even more.A well crafted hopped up pale ale,I really enjoyed this one.

Poured from a 12oz bottle dated best before 30 Nov. 2012 into a Unibroue snifter. Tasting/rating done back-to-back with another NC APA: Natty Greene's Southern Pale Ale

A: The beer is a dark orange-amber color and clear, with a short beige head that slowly fades to a ring and ultra-thin top coat, leaving some sticky lacing on the glass. Dark for style, shadowing the flavor profile.

S: The aroma is complex and moderately hoppy, but there's a solid malt component too. Over a base of caramel malts lies some citrus and herbal hop aromas with hints of baked bread.

T: The taste has a piney/herbal hop component along with a surprisingly strong sweet caramel and light roasted malt base. Overall, mild bitterness by the finish. More malt, and caramel, in the finish and aftertaste than expected. Complex flavor components integrate nicely.

M: Crisp; medium body; medium carbonation; semi-dry finish.

O: A complex and tasty APA, with a bit of a brown ale alias. More malty than average for style, and using some darker malts. Adequate hops for style. I found this less typical for style than the Natty Greene's, being "pale" in neither appearance nor flavor, but more enjoyable nonetheless. Recommended, especially if you like both brown and PA styles.

Had a bottle poured into a plastic pint cup at the brewery tasting room.

A - Deep amber color, with little to no head and tiny bubbles evident on sides of the cup

S - Very hop-forward, piny and pleasant with a touch of citrus underneath

T - initially a gentle malt flavor, progressing quickly to an aggressive hop bite with a definite bitterness, aftertaste is slightly floral

M - Medium mouth feel with not a lot of carbonation presence

D - Fairly easy drinking while I got the tour of the brewery, but not my favorite pale ever, needed more flavor overall

On tap at Village Draft House in Raleigh

The beer arrived a copper brown with a thin lacing of head; small carbonation bubbles visible. Nose is floral and citrus hops; smells a little sweet. Taste is also floral and citrus hops. I detect hints of grapefruit with a mild hop bite in the finish. Light to medium bodied and lightly carbonated. Easily sessionable.

Pours a nice amber color with a thick beige head that retains well and leaves good lacing. The aroma is fairly hoppy, with notes of citrus and pine, a little resin, some caramel, toasted bread, bubblegum and some alcohol. The flavor also has a bright hoppiness upfront (pineapple and lemon, pine resin), along with some caramel, a little bubblegum which is odd, fruity esters, and a little alcohol. The mouthfeel is thick, and the drinkability is good but not great. Overall a pretty solid pale ale, not exceptional but not flawed.

On tap @ The Pit (Raleigh, NC) on 12/12/09. Served in a pint glass.

Pours a clear copper, with a thin covering of frothy brite-white head. This stays fairly sturdy, leaving some rich froth down the sides of the glass. Floral and spicy hops gives this a feel of airiness in the nostrils, while notes of citrus, bread, and a touch of sweeter caramel giving this a fruity tang in the back of the nostrils. Good hoppy nose here.

The taste possesses a spicy bitterness that prickles the tongue up front, then giving way to a splash of citrus and sweet toasty malts. This may actually be just a touch too sweet and tangy in the in the back but the hops return in the finish with a lingering drying spiciness and some residual fruity accents. The mouthfeel is lighter-medium bodied, with a pleasant amount of crispness that tingles the palate. Pretty easy drinking and refreshing overall.

Quite the flavorful and quaffable APA, with a good bit of assertive hop character and an equally aggressive crispness in the body that matches it. Another fine beer here from Lonerider. I'm looking forward to more stuff from these guys.
