Hide if you can, you can’t escape the Hangman. He represents our American Barley Wine Ale brewed with over twice the malt, hops and yeast of an average ale. Concentrating these ingredients causes the aroma and flavor to equal more than the sum of its parts.

This thing is drinking extremely well. So much hop character followed by caramel, toffee, and herbal notes. A biscuit-like malt base creates a terrific balance.

2014 vintage. Poured from a bomber into a snifter, the beer is a dark, vibrant, caramel coloring, with a halo of white head. Nose of roasted caramel, toffee, apple, pepper spice, and some subtle hops bitterness. Flavors are rich and roasted forward, with a bolt of peppery and resinous hops. Rich caramel, toffee, molasses, and apple, with piney notes at the end. Full bodied and big, with a malt bomb aftertaste of rich sweetness. Smooth, lingering finish, with a brandy-like linger. Solid brew.

22oz Bottle

2013 Bottling

Big ups, Wilson! More NC beer to cheer. Hangman glugs from the bottle the color of sun tea left out to long. Darkening up in the glass it has a silky shimmer and when backlit turns sepia. The beige head swirls, slowly growing to a cap before fading to a ring and island of foam. Thin, but fly paper sticky, lacing coats the glass.

Big notes of caramel and lightly toasted white bread lay a neutral, but bold, canvas. Tea leaf hoppiness and big, dripping candied citrus play the main role. The citrus comes across as candied peel, Curacao liqueur (thanks to a clean booziness), and a whisper of grapefruit marmalade. With warmth the caramel becomes deeper and richer yet.

The flavor profile is brighter than the nose. Rich caramel and candied citrus peel mingle immediately. Undercurrents of white toast run from start to finish. Citric sweetness hits in the middle, mostly marmalade, while the swallow is met with soft orange and grapefruit pith. Some of that tea leaf hoppiness pops up on the finish along with a lingering caramel sweetness.

Frothy and bitter. The carbonation is dialed in on this guy. Active enough to create a luxurious frothiness that sweeps away what seems like would be a sweet finish. The bitterness grows on each drink, maxing out about moderate. There is zero noticeable alcohol and thanks to the frothiness this beer goes down far too easily.

Hangman is an all around good American style barleywine. Caramel based, citric hoppy, and moderately bitter. The alcohol is expertly hidden and it's one of easiest drinking barleywines I can remember ever having.. Thanks again, Wil!

@ Tasty Beverage

Deep chestnut color with a small, fluffy, yellowish head that settles to a fat ring around the edges and leaves some patches on the surface. Aromas of raisins, caramel, sticky bread, and some smooth piney hops. Big sticky malt, dark fruit, and definitely a heavier hop presence in the mouth. Some toffee, fruity booze, and dry pine resins. Fairly heavy body with a nice smoothness and some lingering bitterness. I thought this leaned a little towards the English side of things at first, but the hops open up as it warms. Pretty nice...

11%ABV,110 IBU's.A new offering from Lonerider I am not sure if this is going to be a rotating offering or if this is a one time batch,we'll see.Poured into an imperial nonic a full ruby tinged deep tawny color with a creamy full one finger light beige head that lasts a long time before setting into a frothy mass.Dark fruits and deeply resiny hops stand out in the nose along with sweet booze and cake.Chewey full feel once it hits the back of the mouth it glides down very nicely.Big fruit and cakey flavors at the onset with whole helluva alot of booze, the hops give a resiny lingering finish to go along with the booze.Wow this is a warming hopped up barleywine,it's pretty brash right now and I will save a bottle for awhile.I love this beer,Lonerider did a damn fine job here.
