Notes/Commercial Description:
Okay Hop-heads, we have found a way to combine the strong aromatic hop of a big West coast style double IPA and and the subtle bitter hop finish of a traditional English IPA. Magnum hops combined with traditional Cascade will make your over stimulated tongue do a double take. Close your mouth and let the hops do their magic. Wait for it, wait for it. Okay now pop that top button open and let the sexy out (that’s your fresh crop of chest hair.)

on tap at brewpub.

A: a golden color with a moderate size white head. The head has excellent retention and lacing.

M: good carbonation, but seems a tad light/watery.

More East coast than West coast, with a strong malt component that nearly balances the hop load. This does have a moderately bitter and mildly hoppy aftertaste, but the malt load is really high, and the hop load a bit low, for a beer sold as a West Coast IPA. Does become more hop forward with warming.

Wow!

I was truly blown away by this offering at the Terminal. The only drawback is that I don't live in Chattanooga and three days was not nearly enough time to enjoy this local grill and brewery.

On to the beer.

A- A rich thick, cloudy IPA- almost gives off an aura. Seriously, if the lights were off this thing may glow- somewhere between Nugget Nectar and Stone Ruination in the color.

S-well, if I could place this citrus, pine, malt character into an oxygen mask I'd scuba with this stuff. Wow.

T-Over the top, but balanced, very bitter, but with the malts to back it, I could sit back and sip this on a hot day- a cold day- or anywhere in between.

D- I didnt ask about the ABV, but have a feeling that it's somewhere around 7. The only reason to not give this a 5 is the sweetness and the ABV may leave you hurting pretty bad the next morning.

First, let me say that while most of the Terminal beers are 'decent', this one is world class. The first thing that caught my eye was the perfectly clean light golden amber/yellow with a bubbly head that dissapated into a scarily fantastic oil slick. Seriously, the top of this beer resembled a fine oatmeal brew or world class lager(like Dortmunder Gold) in that the surface was ominous with lace and that oily characteristic that left me yearning to get a feel of this brews mouthfeel... and it didn't dissapoint. The sticky texture kept those wonderful hops jumping in my mouth between each sip. I knew I wouldn't be going back to the other flavors anytime soon. This IPA was going to haul up for the night. Nothing is overdone and everything is done right. The bitterness....prominant, but not too much, the citrus, as much in the nose as the taste, and it is a true citrus - not off-putting in any way whatsoever. A late prickle on the back of my tongue said 'thank you sir may I have another'... maybe they should just offer this one beer... this is a flagship offering no doubt. Warning on the abv and sugars/conagers here... this beer tastes awesome, but it is NOT hangover friendly.

Pours a hazy, copper/golden color. 3/4 inch head of a white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of strong hops (floral) and slight citrus. Fits the style of an American IPA. Mouth feel is smooth and slightly thick with an average carbonation level. Tastes of strong hops, citrus (orange), and sweet malt background. Overall, this is much better per style than their APA.

True to the name, it looks like a good IPA. Hazy copper with slight brown hints. Nice dense, sticky white head.
Nose is straight up cascade hops. Hoppy mc hopperson.

Comes across more pine-y in the taste. Long lingering pine hops. Leafy and resinous. Slight balancing malt/cookie and a little hint of tropical fruit sweetness.

Good mouthfeel and drinkability. Good overall offering.

On tap at the brewpub.

A: cloudy, amber, some head, but very little overall
S: almost none, some sweetness and some bitter hops but very mild overall
T: English style with hop bitterness, not over the top with hops
M: good mouthfeel, with malt then English-style bitter hops, well-made but lacks character

I had a pint on tap at Terminal today and I was instantly skeptical of the "west coast" description. The beer looked great, bright yellow orange with a ton of lace. Nice smell of hops but not a west coast blast just some muted citrus. The flavor was mostly bitter but had a nice floral quality as well. They suggested pairing this with their Italian meat pizza and it really worked well. I was impressed but they should drop the west coast and just call it a hoppy ipa.

Aroma - Citrus from the Cascade hops comes through in colors. The hop levels provide a hint of grass in the nose. After cutting through the hops there was a subtle malt aroma possibly biscuit or victory malt.

Appearance - Hazy, None of the beers poured clear. Non-existent head.

Flavor - Moderate residual sweetness combined with a strong hop bitterness. The Magnum hops provide a nice clean component with the citrus laden cascades.

Mouthfeel - Full bodied with a fair amount of residual sweetness and cloying hop resins. It might be nice to drive the Final Gravity a little lower to restore the balance with the hops. Moderate carbonation was actually well balanced with the hop bitterness.

Overall - An average to above average IPA. I enjoyed the use of Magnum hops to balance the cascades. Very drinkable, and the best of the bunch.

Like all of their beers the haze is an immediate turn off. If I had to guess the brewery isn't large enough to support the demand and the beer is turned over too rapidly. Invest in some finnings to clear the beers.

On tap into a shaker pint at the brewhouse on 05/26.

A: Hazy golden yellow. Finger white head.

S: Big orange and lemon citrus nose, some grassy levels present too. Biscuity malt.

T: Big bitter bite up front. Citrus is there, but not as dominant as in the nose. Grassier flavors come in heavy. Only some light malt character underneath.

M: Good, drinkable medium body. Very crisp in carbonation and bitterness.

O: One of the better IPA's i've had from a brewpub. Very bitter. I guess that translates to "west coast" in IPA speak. Could use more citrus flavors.
