Another non-bock beer form the last bock beer tasting evening with rvdoorn. But I couldn't refuse this rare dubbel.

A: Dark brown/ruby with a big bubbly head.

S: Burned malts, caramel and dark fruits. Some woody smell is there as well.

T: The first thing that stands out and is particular to me: dutch apple syrup. Didn't notice this before in a beer.
There's also burned malts, toffee, dark fruits and a slight bitter finish. I get the impression they als used cane sugar syrup.

M: Low carbonation, creamy and a medium body.

D: This is a very original beer. Classified as a dubbel, but it's more than that.

A thick yet drinkable beer tasting of caramel and burnt malt. This strikes me as closer to a stout than to a dubbel. Recommended in any case.

Some time ago, I went with some friends to the OpenAir museum in the Netherlands. In this museum, many buildings from the past centuries are being preserved to show how people used to live during the last centuries. And of course one of these buildings is a brewery (from early 1900) and since two years, the Dutch amateur beer brewing champion from 2007, brews several beers that which can be bought in the museum and in some liquor shops in Arnhem. This Dubbel I shared with PapaEugene. Poured into a sniffer. The beer pours a dark-brown color with some hints of ruby, with a nice head (resembles dish soap).

Smell: Strong caramel, figs, plum, alcohol, burned malts. Also some smoked wooden barrel.

Taste: caramel, toffee, coffee,, honey, clear apple syrup and dark fruits. The beer has a nice bitter hoppy finish

Mouthfeel: Thick mouthfeel, medium low carbonation, with fast oxidation

Overall: My favorite microbrewery. This is a truly great beer, not a typical dubbel though, more a light barley wine. I love it.
