Visited on 11/17/2012 with my parents and sister (party of 4)
Atmosphere: Atmosphere is typical sports bar. Very buffalo wild wings esq. Lots of TV's with sporting events, fairly loud with varying people cheering for different teams, etc.
Quality and Selection: Beer selection is as expected for a "sports bar". We waited 20 minutes and the board in the entry way listed their beers, all Macro with Sam Adams and a few other micro's in small text. The quality was poor. I saw they had Victory Hop Devil on tap, so I ordered one. It tasted old and foul. I presume the lines weren't cleaned after changing the keg, etc. The Leinenkugel Snowdrift porter on the other hand was much better.
Service: Service was average. Our waitress was slow checking with us and complained about working a 12hr shift. She also had to return when my mom ordered a decaf coffee as she couldn't remember what my mom ordered.
Food: The food was average. I got fish and chips, which were as expected. My sister ordered one of the east coast pizza's, Hawaiian style. The pizza was above average as it tasted like it was cooked in a traditional brick fired oven. Both of my parents food was average, nothing to write home about.
Value: The bill was just shy of $70 for 4 of us. Reasonable, but overpriced for everything but the pizza.
Overall: Overall this place is nothing to write home about. With a name like "Beer Barrel" i would expect them to have a much better selection of beer, not just ever version of Macro known to man. The pizza is the only redeeming quality of this place, it was delicious. I would only be returning for the pizza. If you like good pizza, macro beer and sports, this is your place. This is not a Craft Beer/Food aficionado's place.

This is the newest of two locations in Lima. The atmosphere is bar-like with plenty of beer related signage and neon. It can get abit loud and at capacity when busy. A large U-shaped bar past the dinning area is nice with a singles cooler behind with an average selection of bottles. Nothing to crafty. 20 taps behind the bar show-off the shirts you can go for if you try the twenty beers in ten days. Selection is average. Yes there are Mac-taps but 20% could support the craft beer market. Goose Island, Great Lakes and other offering rotate the selection as often as the can.
Service is good, I'll admit the staff isn't that up on beer knowledge or even the style of beers they're serving. I point out beer qualities to them as i can.
The food is awesome. Good Pizza, soups and other itialian offerings are served with good portion size.
Parking, plenty with a movie theatre in the same area. I asked to put this beerfly post on this site because its one of a few places in town a beer advocate like myself like to patronize. When visiting an area I like know whats available to keep me close at best to the craft beer market. No breweries in town.
No offence to our German friend below..Pizza hut has Miller & Coors lite on tap. Id rather Beer Barral it if thats our Advocate choice.

Okay, this place is your typical sports bar as far as atmosphere; however, it's improved since the last time I visited this place ten years ago. The place is a little cramped, and the tin crap on the walls is pretty cheesy.
They do have some craft available, like Goose Island and Sierra Nevada, but that's it. Including the micros, macros, and imports there are eight taps, not 50. The bottle selection is in the 20's and is quite pitiful as well in the way of craft/micro/import.
The service was decent with the staff readily available at all times, and the quality of the service/food was average too. The food ranges from pizza to Mediterranean themed dishes (I wouldn't call it close to authentic, but their menu boasts of it anyways).
Altogether, it's an okay place for the local dismal area of Lima Land, but this establishment shouldn't be on this website. There is not much BeerAdvocacy here.
