Pours out a clear apricot with a thin, white head. The aroma is really faint for what it is. Light touch of tropical fruit hops. Malt is subtle with a touch of New Belgium house yeast aroma. Flavor has light, crackery malts, and big tropical fruit from the hops. Mango and pineapple. Moderate bitterness and sweetness. New Belgium house taste isn't too overpowering. Mouthfeel isn't overbearingly heavy. Nice, prickly carbonation. Pretty solid beer overall.

Finally sitting down to actually write up a review based on my notes from back on 11/19/13. Poured out of a 22 oz brown bomber indicating that the hops used are "salmon safe" and with a best by date of 2/23/14. Poured into the IPA-specific Speigelau glass.

Appearance - Pours with a crystal-clear opaqueness and a blend of straw yellow and more golden amber hues, depending on how the light passes through. A steady and active stream of carbonation bubbles rises from the etching on the bottom of the glass to replenish a big, rocky two finger head. Retention is moderate, with the full head lasting only a couple minutes, and leaving a mottled sheet of giraffe-coat like lace around the glass. Eventually settles with a quarter-finger film across the top of the body.

Smell - A nice mix of pale malts and a cocktail of hops, with notes of earth, pine and citrus zest coming to the forefront. Some sweeter hop profiles are also faintly present, with some notes of floral nectar and wildflowers. However, it's not as pungent as I have come to expect from the wet hop style

Taste - The malt becomes a bit more present, with biscuit and and fresh bread providing a hearty base for the herbal and floral hop profiles. Light pine, fresh herbs and white peppercorn along with the predominant notes of floral sweetness. There is again some faint citrus, but it's very fleeting--certainly not the predominant flavor profile in this beer.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation with a mostly dry finish that still contains a touch of sweet.

Overall, a solid beer, but not really mind-blowing. Not only have I had better fresh hop ales, but I've had better beers out of the Hop Kitchen series from New Belgium. That being said, the pricing on this series is outstanding, and as long as that continues, I will continue to buy bottles from it.

A - Very nice clear honey, tons of near white head, lots of cling.

S - Compact. A little ocean. Hops there but lots of not so good things there too.

T - More malt that smell but still very briny and not super tasty.

M - Medium body, good carb, ok balance, ok finish.

D - Not my favorite. One is enough.

Appearance-
A golden hue, clear. It almost borders orange, but just does not make it.

Smell-
Very fresh, the hops have a very mellow grass quality. The malt seems to harken to a kind of biscuity smell that makes me think of Fat Tire.

Taste-
Here is what it is about. This does have that unique New Belgium malt flavor profile, and it is not chasing the sweet powerful IPA style that has exploded recently. It runs closer to a classic bitter hop IPA. This means it ends with a bite that some hate, some love.

Mouthfeel-
Heavy enough to add some weight to the taste, but crisp enough to leave your mouth refreshed and scrubbed.

Overall-
An excellent entry for IPAs, not following the crowd logic. Definitely not new, but well done (especially for the price and moral brewing).
