Pours clear dark dark mahogany as any dubbel should. Bubbles are a bit pop-like though.

Smells of quite a bit of licorice. A wierd malt I can't quite explain.

Taste is strong licorice, cinnamon, maybe some pepper. Sort of sharp, but not in a bad way. Alcohol is VERY well hidden.

Mouthfeel is a bit thin and pop-like. The fizz turns into a sheet of spice on the tounge. It's wierd.

Overall, this ain't bad. It was only $6 for a bomber, the other similar bottles were $9-12. You do get what you pay for, but at $6 it was worth the try.

Poured into a Dogfish Head pint glass. Pours a medium to dark red amber with a fine two finger khaki head with good retention and lots of pillowy lacing. Aroma of bready malt, Belgian yeast, cake-like spicing of cinnamon, clove, hints of ginger. Flavor starts with caramel malt, Belgian yeast, dark fruit, like a sweet dark dubbel, familiar (cinnamon and clove) and odd (schisandra?) spicing develop and carry into the finish, which is mostly dark fruit, spicy bitterness and medicinal, presumably also from the schisandra. Medium bodied with a hint of creaminess. I was a bit leery of this one, Lips of Faith has been a mixed bag for me, and a bitter strange fruit I'd never tasted was a bit daunting. However, I enjoyed this odd little beer. Although there is dubbel character (the first few seconds is like a very sweet dubbel), other strange flavors develop quickly and become the dominant theme here. Although the schisandra flavor seemed initially herbal medicinal, I grew to enjoy it and it did fit nicely into the sweet body of Wild2. If I had to tell someone what this tasted like, I'd say it was much like a winter warmer with the addition of a mildy bitter exotic spice. I waited a long time to try this and it disappeared from the market, almost to my relief, but I found a stray bottle and got to sample it now. I often have tasted beers that I was happy to try, but never again; I would absolutely buy this again if I saw it. Off beat but enjoyable. A bit on the sweet side, with an odd medicinal aftertaste, but for me it invited repeated tasting. Nicely done.

(Served in a teku)

A- This beer pours a dense walnut brown body with an auburn glow at the base and a thick sticky off-white head that pulls up into a meniscus and has some nice lacing with each sip.

S- The dry woody toffee aroma has some dark red wine hints to it as it opens and some fruity hints that take on a bit of plum quality. There is a banana and clove note in the finish aswell.

T- The delicate blend of dark fruit and toffee are soft and have a plum and raisin character if anything. The finish is a herbaceous slightly bitter note but it remains soft. As the beer opens more hints of flavor come through with some citrus rind and circus peanut notes being notable.

M- The medium mouthfeel is followed by a soft fizz and an alcohol warmth.

O- There is a fullness to the flavor but there is a delicate depth to the flavors aswell. It is a nice American dubble and I'm not sure what flavors the schisandra fruit contributed but I couldn't pull it out specifically.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a tulip.

Appearance: Brown with beautiful ruby highlights. Scant light brown head that dissipated quickly.

Aroma: Mainly sweet fruit with some candy aroma.

Taste: A rather thick sweet taste predominates, with raisin. There is slight funk and sourness. There is also a hint of bourbon and oak and a very slight alcohol heat.

Mouthfeel: Not too notable. A little light in body. The level of carbonation is fine.

Overall: This is an OK beer. Not sure if the schisandra contributes anything that adds to the beer. The touch of raisin reminds me of Raison D'Être. I would drink this again if offered but probably won't seek it out.
