Served in Imperial Pint at Old Mill. Thanks Dave.
What makes this nice is the more aggressive yet balanced malt character. Getting closer to an English or Belgian ale, but not quite that big, as this is still hop forward. Still a crunchy malt that was enjoyable on a cold day. Pretty standard, but nicely done hopping. Firm, but in no way excessive bitterness with a well rounded hop flavors. Soft and moderately full. Attractive with pale amber color and nice white head.
This went well with chicken and pecan salad.

This nineties-style "retro" IPA pours a dark, deep amber with a lovely head of fine white foam. Detailed and frilly lace.
Aroma is pine hops, and some pungent garlic herbal notes, almost. Not bad.
Taste definitely reflects the earlier days before "American IPA" was the norm. Pine hops dominate, rather than citrus, while the malt profile is reasonably heavy as well. In fact, I couldn't help but think that this could easily pass for a modern-day pale ale, rather than an IPA. Think more like Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale rather than a typical West Coast IPA.
As it is, I enjoyed this one, but towards the end of the 22 oz. bomber, I had to force this one down.

Pours two and half fingers of head on a clear dark straw colored body. Looks great.
The aroma carries a little citrus but the pine sap dominates.
The taste is surprisingly sweet for an IPA. It's well balanced though with lemon bitterness.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
