Poured 22oz shared bottle into new Belguim globe. Best before 5/4/14.
A-Clear orange red color. Thin khaki head. Few loose dots of lace.
S-Nice aromas of biscuit, bread, cookie like malt, some caramel malt and citrus hop.
T-Interesting malt profile. Earthy, lightly citrusy, lightly resiny hop.
M-Moderate bitter, moderate sweet taste. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of crisp, lighter carbonation. Lightly dry finish.
O-A descent IPA from New Belguim thou it seemed something was missing.

This nineties-style "retro" IPA pours a dark, deep amber with a lovely head of fine white foam. Detailed and frilly lace.
Aroma is pine hops, and some pungent garlic herbal notes, almost. Not bad.
Taste definitely reflects the earlier days before "American IPA" was the norm. Pine hops dominate, rather than citrus, while the malt profile is reasonably heavy as well. In fact, I couldn't help but think that this could easily pass for a modern-day pale ale, rather than an IPA. Think more like Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale rather than a typical West Coast IPA.
As it is, I enjoyed this one, but towards the end of the 22 oz. bomber, I had to force this one down.

Pours two and half fingers of head on a clear dark straw colored body. Looks great.
The aroma carries a little citrus but the pine sap dominates.
The taste is surprisingly sweet for an IPA. It's well balanced though with lemon bitterness.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
