An homage to our roots and the craft-brewing heyday of the early 90's. Maris Otter and Special B malts give a big sweet background to a palette of Horizon, Williamette and Galena hop varieties.

Found the Hops Kitchen pack at Costco and had to give it a whirl.

A - dark amber with a tan head. Looks appropriate to the style.

S - brown butter, caramel, and pine. Any fruit?

T - similar to the smell. Maybe ok for some, but I expect some fruit/citrus.

M - average.

O - With the myriad IPA options available, I would not recommend this beer to friends.

From notes. Had at the Red Stag. Pours brilliant amber under a 1” off white clingy foam collar. Fruit and herbal aromas blend with malt. A dose of bitter balances and gives character to peach, melon, herbs and a light malt sweetness. Medium body and carbonation. A big flavored beer that is very easy to drink.

This nineties-style "retro" IPA pours a dark, deep amber with a lovely head of fine white foam. Detailed and frilly lace.

Aroma is pine hops, and some pungent garlic herbal notes, almost. Not bad.

Taste definitely reflects the earlier days before "American IPA" was the norm. Pine hops dominate, rather than citrus, while the malt profile is reasonably heavy as well. In fact, I couldn't help but think that this could easily pass for a modern-day pale ale, rather than an IPA. Think more like Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale rather than a typical West Coast IPA.

As it is, I enjoyed this one, but towards the end of the 22 oz. bomber, I had to force this one down.

Pours two and half fingers of head on a clear dark straw colored body. Looks great.
The aroma carries a little citrus but the pine sap dominates.
The taste is surprisingly sweet for an IPA. It's well balanced though with lemon bitterness.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
Enjoyable.
