Notes/Commercial Description:
IBU: 13
Yeast: Hybrid ale yeast
Calories: 182
Hops: Cascade
Malts: Pale, Wheat
Fruits/Spices: Coriander, grains of paradise
Special Processing: Add Lactobacillus (souring bacteria) to a portion of the overall wort, which produces lactic acid that gives a characteristic sourness and mouthfeel. That acidic portion is then added to other portion of the wort that was fermented with the Ale yeast. So two worts – a sour and a regular – are blended together to make Snapshot.

Snapshot – American Wheat Ale (5%) – New Belgium Brewing Co. (Colorado)
☆☆☆½

App: Pours a dark straw/light gold color made somewhat white around the edges due to unfiltered wheat sediment. Slightly airy two finger head foams up nicely and settles leaving soapy, bubble filled lacing up the sides. Beer is very murky, translucent but not opaque.

Smell: Sour and bready, much like sour dough bread actually. Hints of lemon and flowers. Slightly acidic. Overall assertive in aroma, but not particularly complicated. Slightest bit of toast lingering in background.

Taste: Unabashed malted wheat graininess totally dominates fore- and true taste. Slightly toasted, very bready, with a pleasantly sour, almost lactic aftertaste. Slight hints of lemon and green grape peel paired with under-ripe fruit. Some high, thin sweetness on the top of the palate, with aftertaste dominated by a slight tartness that is a truly rare flavor in beer.

Mouth: Light bodied, mellow, and dry, this would be a great summer session beer. Carbonation is medium-strong, totally acceptable for style.

Home tasting, 12oz bottle into Tulip Glass. 2/5/14

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Shaker pint glass, "Enjoy By" date 11-23-14.

APPEARANCE: pours a cloudy, straw yellow with 1 finger white head that slowly dissipated until a thin broken layer of bubbles remained, medium carbonation and a good amount of lacing on the glass.

SMELL: lemon citrus, bread, coriander.

TASTE: the taste follows the nose precisely, lemon citrus, bread and coriander, a pleasant mildly sour note at the end, the 5% alcohol is imperceptible.

PALATE: medium carbonation, light body.

OVERALL: I really enjoyed this beer and would recommend to anyone who enjoys wheat beer. I would definitely buy this beer again and it was reasonably priced as well.

Appearance: Pale yellow. Barely any lacing for head.
Smell: Lemon tartness.
Taste: Sour lemon.

Well, it's a tart and refreshing drink. The color is a pale, cloudy yellow with hardly any head. The smell is mostly lemon at first and second whiffs. The taste is something tart with dashes of lemon. It's good, but I probably wouldn't get it again. Best on a hot day.

A: Pours a hazy tarnished gold with two fingers of white head that fades into a frothy ring with little lacing.

S: Sweet breads with clove and coriander-like spice notes followed by tart fruit aromas.

T: Hearty bread here with clove-like spice flavors. Tart fruit and lemonade-like flavors follow before a clean, bready finish.

M: Light body with moderate carbonation, this beer is nicely drinkable despite a slightly watery finish.

O: A good beer, overall. Simple, but enjoyable and refreshing with a good amount of flavor for a normally bland and boring style.

Generally a style I avoid, but this was a pretty damn tasty pale wheat. I was very pleasantly surprised by this one.

Moderate spice and earthiness before a relatively mild, lemony lactic tartness at the finish. Light and refreshing on a hot day, I'd have it again.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a clear pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a nice light yellow color with a one finger white foamy head that fades quickly, and it leaves a slight sticky lacing after.

Smell: Sweet wheat and slight spices of coriander and clove. A light whiff of lemon.

Taste: It's initially sweet and wheaty with a good malt and yeast combo, then it finishes with a slight lemony sourness that is really appealing to me (I love sour beers).

Mouthfeel: Slightly slick and creamy with a nice smooth and slightly sour finish on the tongue.

Overall: I love wheat beers and I love Flemmish sour ales, so this was a winner for me. Not overly tart or vinegary with the sourness like some sours, and it's all balanced very well with a good wheat beer. I really like this one.
