American Pale Wheat Ale |  5.00% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
IBU: 13
Yeast: Hybrid ale yeast
Calories: 182
Hops: Cascade
Malts: Pale, Wheat
Fruits/Spices: Coriander, grains of paradise
Special Processing: Add Lactobacillus (souring bacteria) to a portion of the overall wort, which produces lactic acid that gives a characteristic sourness and mouthfeel. That acidic portion is then added to other portion of the wort that was fermented with the Ale yeast. So two worts – a sour and a regular – are blended together to make Snapshot.

Best by date June 2014
Appearance: Pours a hazy golden yellow with a soapy white head. Good lacing and retention.

Smell: Wheat, tart sour fruits, citrusy lemon. Tart citrus really overpowers the wheat in the aroma.

Taste: Mild smooth wheat, nice tart finish. Love this beer. Love the slightly sour tartness working with the wheat.

Mouthfeel: Is light and can come off as a little bit flat, but brings the simple flavors across nicely.

This will be a damn goos summer beer. Some inconcsistency between bottles as some seem less flavorful than others. Still a very, simple easy drinking beer. Even though this really isnt a sour it may bring more people into the world of sour beers and it seems that new belgium is planning on making a lot more sour beer in the future.

A very wheaty nose scented with fruit.
Pours pale cloudy straw with a very robust white persistent moussey foam cap. Very lacy.
Palate: Big bready wheat malt and then tart and fruity flavors emerge as it crosses your palate. The interactions between the yeasty and the malty tangy wheat with lemon and bread play with your tongue well into the finish. Very drinkable.
The beer comes across light and refreshing but with substance. Refreshingly effervescent.

A - Slightly cloudy straw in color. Light to medium carbonation. White 2 finger frothy head that is slow to dissipate. Not as cloudy as expected considering that this is an unfiltered wheat beer. Head is retained nicely throughout tasting. 3.5/5

S - Reminds me of being around my grandparents' farm at harvest time. Definite graininess and wheat to the aroma. Slight green apple aroma followed up by grassy hops. Ever so slight hint of clove, maybe even a hint of banana. 3.55/5

T - White bread. Wheat. A hint of a caramel sweetness. Cereal. Dominated by the malt here. Hops do not make much of an appearance. Grassy hops. Some yogurt sourness. Sourness is the final note on my tongue instead of bitterness. Slight hint of banana. 3.5/5

M - Medium bodied and smooth. Finishes clean. Light to medium carbonation. 4/5

O - Very refreshing wheat beer. Some nice flavors going on here. Definitely not your typical wheat beer. Not entirely convinced that I would buy this again. I expect this type of sourness from wild ales, not necessarily from wheat beers. 3.5/5

Popped the top to an aroma of someone farting in a wet bathing suit in a hot car. Tart is accurate, which paired well with my dry numb pallet after a pack of newports. Pretty run of the mill wheat beer. Glad I only bought a single. Whoever said it tastes like blue moon was spot on.

12 oz bottle, enjoy by 6/22/14. Pours hazy yellow-white with a big rocky white head that retains well and laces the glass a little.

The aroma is wheat malts with some lactic acid tartness.

The flavor is sweet bready wheat malts with a little lemoney fruit and slight tart lactic acid. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with some spritzy carbonation.

Overall, reminds me of a gose, but a bit sweeter and more wheaty.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a New Belgium Globe glass. Bottle says enjoy by May 25th, 2014.

Appearance: Pours a very hazy yellowish golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Solid two fingers of white head which slowly fade into a thin creamy layer. Leaves a decent amount of lacing.

Smell: A fairly tart and zesty wheat malt forward aroma with good hints of citrus and spice. Upfront wheat and pale malt with hints of straw, biscuit, grains, and cracker. Spice hints of coriander and pepper. Citrus fruit hints of lemon zest and orange. Somewhat floral and acidic. A pretty solid wheat ale aroma.

Taste: Like the nose, a zesty, tart, and somewhat acidic wheat malt driven taste with good notes of citrus and spice. Wheat and pale malt with some notes of biscuit, straw, crackers, and grains. Notes of coriander and some pepper spicing. Zesty citrus fruit notes of lemon and orange. Slight notes of floral hops in the background. A pretty solid crisp wheat taste.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a medium to high level of carbonation. Crisp, creamy, spritzy, and slightly acidic. Very smooth.

Overall: A solid light and refreshing wheat ale. Nice tart citrus presence.
