Artisan maltster River Bend Malt House of Asheville, North Carolina, kiln a perfect rye. And when you pair gobs of their spicy rye with heaps of spicy hops you get a great Hop Kitchen Beer. This unique, and collaborative, Rye IPA boasts a bold blend of Simcoe, Galaxy, Cascade, and Mosaic hops to bring a thunderous 75 IBU. Have a sip and feel the bang.

This beer is a filtered amber hue with a couple finger beige head of minimal retention or lacing. It is quite thin and while it presents some herbal hop qualities, for the be rye was not capitalized on. The beer overall left me shaking my head like so many New Belgium and other mainstream - not quite craft brews.

The appearance had a golden amber color with a half finger white foamy head that dies and leaves a nice clingy foamy lacing clinging extremely nicely against the pint glass. The smell had the rye and the hops combine super nicely in front and let the malts settle in the background. It does try to add a decent citrus background but even that stays in the background for the most part. The taste was mainly bitter through the hops and rye but eventually the malts do play a part of a somewhat clean sweet complimentary citrusy goodness; no aftertaste but has a quick dry finish. On the palate, it sat at/about a light to medium in body, slightly sessionable and I think it could be fairly decent with food. Overall, in my opinion, this is a pretty good Rye AIPA that I’m pretty sure I’d have again.

This pours a warming caramel tan in the glass. I get a light peppery beady aroma with hints of candied orange on the aroma. There's a bready note on the beer, with a tasty pepper note and some orange marmalade. It's a good one.

Sticky laced, light copper beer. Nondiscernable barley and grain smell, with a variety of hops to taste. Pretty medium bodied ale. Light bitterness with fresh ingredients. I notice a clean feel - a wash if you may - so it has little to no lingering bitterness. Good IPA and would drink again, no question.

Pours a clear plum-orange with an off-white medium-thin head. Head retention is modest, but with great and tight lacing left behind. Spicy rye, floral, herbal, and pine hop notes compose a spicy, but dry aroma. The flavor profile is cut and dry. Rye opens it up, with pine, herbal, and floral hop notes coming in next. Mouth feel is medium-full, with a spicy, abrasive texture. Overall, it's a good rye brew. The rye really keeps the notes in the aroma and flavor short and spicy.
