This raspberry brown ale is a stunning ruby red when held to the light and the nose is cheerfully tart. I have tried this beer on a few occasions, and each time the first sip was the most exciting. Immediately, the tart raspberries go straight to your jaw, but before you have time to pucker, the smooth, sweet dark malts save the day and mellow things out. While this first sip is the most exciting, a few sips later, the layers open themselves up. First, the raspberry spikes with light tartness and then there is this wave of chocolate that wraps the whole thing up and lastly, there is a sweetness left on the tongue.
A great take on a fruit beer, as so many these days are limited to wits and blondes. If in the mood, I would not hesitate to purchase this brew again, because, c'mon, each sip is like taking a bite of chocolate covered cherries.
