Bottle into Sam Adams sensory glass.

Pours a crystal clear deep ruby hinting at dark brown, with a thin, fluffy light khaki head with pinkish hues that settles into a thin cap fairly quickly. Very good lacing, decent retention. Very striking color.

Nose is primarily raspberry, though hints of chocolate come through underneath. The nose isn't too sweet or vivid, and matches the flavor fairly well - fairly authentic, in fact.

The flavor is very reminiscent of the nose. Big raspberry notes steal the show without being too bright or over the top, with just the right balance of sweetness - enough to really pull off the feel of authenticity without being at all cloying. Underlying hints of chocolate and a light nuttiness only add to the overall effect. Hops are invisible, other than to add a nice, clean finish and keep the beer balanced. Just a bit of tartness towards the finish. Quite nice, I really enjoyed it.

Mouthfeel is medium-light in body, crisp carbonation with perhaps just a bit too much bite. Would love a bit more creaminess; there's just a wee bit of it here, more would have really made this one shine. Just a bit of residual stickiness.

Nicely drinkable as well - very balanced, very tasty, though it's enough of a specialty beer that a couple of these would still likely do me for a while. Well done beer overall though, fitting in with many of my New Belgium impressions - solid, well done, very good even, though not quite spectacular.

Note - the tanginess does seem to build after awhile, and this gets a bit old in that last couple of ounces. Still, quite a tasty beer overall.

Poured into a Guiness Pint Glass

Appearance: Dary Ruby color, low head that disappears quickly, low lacing

Smell, a very raspberry Jam smell, low hops and hefty malt scent

Taste: this is a bit sweet for a brown ale, definitely not something I would normally buy, perhaps this is more of a desert beer than a session type ale.

Mouthfeel, with the addition of the raspberry it changes the feel of this beer, it has the malt feel to it and at the end of the drink it's a bit watery, overall it's not that bad of a beer, just not my thing.

If you are going to invest in a fruit type of beer, I think it best to stick with Lambics or Belgian styles that are conducive to fruit in general.

A-Clear deep ruby, not much carbonation at all, one finger head that doesn't last long.

S-Lots of raspberries, rather sweet, a fine line between artificial and good. Not much else though.

T-Extremely sweet raspberries. Almost like a fruit snack. But there is nothing else to the beer. And I decided it was too sweet.

M-Very light, watery not much carbonation at all.

O-Too much raspberries, too sweet, nothing else to this beer. If you absolutely love raspberries give it a whirl but not much of a reason otherwise.
