Beautiful dark cherry-brown color. A thin "nutty pink" head floats atop. Smells of raspberry, cherry, and a slight presence of alcohol. Rather pleasing.
This tastes as warm as it smells. Initial flavors are sweet, rich choco-malts followed by a tartness of raspberries. Has a nice tingle and snap...and rather smooth for something that has such pronounced tartness. Citrusy nuances. Finishes dry and clean. Decent carbonation helps keep things from feeling too "syrupy" in the mouth. I'm thinking of Cherry Coca Cola for some subtle reasons.
I think this would be a charming beer to introduce to folks during the holiday season. It would make a great dessert compliment to a dark chocolate cake or mousse. Or all by itself.
