P: 12oz bottle into a tulip glass.
A: A very pretty deep mahogany with ruby highlights and a single finger light tan head that dissolves into a coating. A great looking beer, the color is awesome!
S: Banana and clove from the Belgian yeast are big and bold up front. A little bubblegum, raisin and sweet bready malts are also present. Exactly what I'd expect from an Abbey Dubbel.
T: Very malty with the banana and clove flavors that dominated the aroma. Some toasted bread from the malt and a little black peppercorn at the end.
M: Medium body but creamy in texture with a slightly dry finish. Carbonation is moderately high and this beer goes down easy. A touch of alcohol bite as the beer warms but it's not harsh.
O: A very good take on the style, New Belgium was going for authentic with "Abbey" and they've succeeded in my opinion. I think it hits all of the right notes in terms of aroma and flavor for the style. Is it the best Dubbel I've ever had, no but it's one of the better examples outside of Belgium without a doubt. New Belgium is new to Delaware and from the handful of their brews that I've tried, this has been the best one.
