12oz. bottle poured into a tulip-style glass. It pours a deep reddish-brown, almost black color with about half a finger of head. There is only minimal lacing. The smell is malty with some sweet fruit like plum and grape, and a bit of a bready aroma. The taste is also malty. It's sweet at first, with plum and currant fruits coming through. In the middle you get a little bit of the yeast flavor in there. The finish has just a hint of roasted coffee. The mouthfeel is fairly thick and strong, yet smooth on the tongue. The drinkability is great for a 7% dubbel. A nice treat from New Belgium!
