12oz bottle served at cellar temperature.
Pours hazy brown with a two finger beige head that leaves some foamy lacing and holds a nice cap down the glass.
Aroma is yeast, bread, banana, apple, pear, pink bubblegum, a hint of raisins, dark fruit and spice. Very good strength.
Flavor is strongest in the bubblegum, banana, yeast and bread categories, underlying dark fruits, some caramel, minimal alcohol, fair sweetness, low bitterness. A tad weak compared to other Dubbels. As it warms the bubblegum pretty much completely takes over.
Mouthfeel is on the light end of medium, somewhat soft but with some carbonation bite at times.
A good American-brewed Abbey Dubbel, particularly for the price and the fact that it comes in a 6-pack. Not the biggest fan of bubblegum-forward beers so I’ll probably be skipping past this for Ommegang’s Abbey Ale in the future.
