12oz bottle poured into a New Belgium globe. Bottle provided as a generous extra by Exiled, thanks Jason! Just received the New Belgium globe glass in a trade and decided there was no better way to break it in than with an Abbey!
A - Pours a burnt mahogany color with a very meager half-finger's worth of head. Disappointing head but with moderate retention for what's there I suppose. An absolute torrent of carbonation rises from the glass. Minimal lacing.
S - Smell is rich in ripe banana, cloves, pepper, and yeast. Lots of Belgian candied sugar and fruits, such as lemon and grapes. Very light and airy, while being a bit more complex.
T - The taste is very enjoyable for this beer. Follows the nose faithfully but is refreshing and crisp while being full-flavored. Full of the 'grape-bubblegum' taste along with cloves, bananas, lemon, and pepper. Almost no appearance from the alcohol so this could definitely creep up on you.
M - Mouthfeel is smooth and medium bodied with high carbonation. Spicy finish but not entirely dry so lots of flavors linger as well.
D - Drinkability is high. Flavors are bold and enjoyable, no sign of alcohol, and a great mouthfeel all help compensate for a relatively lacking pour. Great beer!
