A thin, delicate head sits atop an amber, earthy colored ale. Some pretty complex aromas: tart banana, some caramel, alcohol, spicy phenols, allspice, and toasted dark bread comes out with a swirl. There is much more dark bread/cereal in flavor with a hint of chocolate & molasses. Bitter and tart flavors together leave you with some phenol and fruity esters. Feels a bit thin and watery. Medium bodied with delicate carbonation that leaves you with a silky feeling.

This is probably one of the most complex beers I've had that comes in a six pack. I've always felt the "Belgium" part of New Belgium's name left a bitter taste in my mouth because they've never really demonstrated their proficiency with the Belgian yeast strain. Well this (along with their Tripel) shut me up. This a Dubbel that stays true to the style while still adding its own flavor. It's probably the best American made Dubbel, and it brings something new to the table. I love this beer and the bang it gives you for the buck. Thank you, NB for proving you can be creative and please release more widely accessible great beers!

Ok, not first but one of my first reviews
Poured in to a Chimay chalice from 12 oz bottle
A: Copper/Reddish hue, good bit of head that fades, and most fades away, there is slight amount of lacing that doesn't remain for long but keeps a presence, little bubbles, great carbonation
S: Sweet, candi, some spices i adventure because of the yeast strain,
T: Really good, a bit of warmth due to the alcohol content, goes out with a bit of grain bitterness, great flavor well balanced
M: Good body, not overwhelming, a bit malty but nothing like a full meal
O: This is a really good beer, while it doesn't try to claim your attention by doing something strange it does catch you by creating a well balanced beer, good example of the style while a bit on the light side its still a really nice beer, nor light not really heavy a great session beer for a great price
