Pours a nice mahogany with noticeable carbonation, an amber-tinged head and plenty of lacing. Smells of complex malt, nice, but not something I seek out. The taste is really nice, even on a hot day this tastes good! This will be a great late Fall brew or after a day on the slopes. I'm not a Belgian Ale drinker, but this is a nicely done beer!

Appearance: Pours a beautiful mahogany color that allows some light through, providing some reddish hues. The beer is capped with a finger of off-white foam for a head that quickly dissipated into a thin halo of foam that gripped the glass.

Aroma: Malty but very fruity too. Lots of dried fruit, such as cherries and plums, and dark bread and leather. Caramel and toffee appear too, and the Belgian yeast is very pronounced.

Taste: Malty, fruity, yeasty, and alcoholicy. Very characteristic to the dubbel style, with lots of depth of flavor and complexity. Maltforward, like freshly baked bread, followed quickly by the dried fruit and caramel notes. I taste some slightly sour cherries and plums and raisins, that’s balanced by the sweetness of the caramel notes. The beer finishes by the slight sour notes of Belgian yeast, that lasts for quite the long while. Damn good beer. One of the best American examples that I’ve had in fact.

Mouthfeel: Medium-thick, chewy. There’s some good carbonation to coat the mouth, but it isn’t at all cloying. Finally, even though the beer only clocks in at 7% ABU, there’s quite the alcohol finish that provides a good warming/tingle on the tongue.

Overall: Another damn good beer from New Belgium. It’s good to see that the brewery, while following the path blazed by a lot of the California and Oregon breweries with multiple IPAs and numerous other hop-forward beers, that when they turn back to their Belgium-inspired beers, they can still produce some of the best in the country. I love this dubbel!
