Appearance - Pours a deep, dark cordovan brown with a light tan, finger width head. Fair retention, resulting in a broken layer of suds across the surface. Lacing is sparse, with fair stick.
Smell - Moderate roast with notes of chocolate. Whiffs of nuttiness and earth.
Taste - Follows the nose. Moderate roasted flavor. Lesser notes of chocolate. Touches on that classic NB toasted nuttiness. Earth flavor hits on the back end; moreso as the brew warms.
Mouthfeel - Medium to full in body with moderate carbonation which tingles the tongue. Somewhat creamy in texture.
Overall - Hard to believe I hadn't reviewed this beer yet; one of New Belgium's older and more popular beers. It's decent enough, but it's never been a beer that I've ever craved.
