Been drinking this regularly at TAPS in Petaluma. Whenever I drink this beer, I have a friend try a sip and say "these are the same people that make Fat Tire." Suspend your disbelief.
This is a dark beer. It looks innocuous enough, sort of a dull maroon that doesn't betray its intense character. The head has always been minimal on the beers I've drank.
The smell? Funk, pure and simple. How do pop rocks blended with cherry juice smell. I guess kinda like balsamic vinegar. Man, I love it.
The mouthfeel is as one would expect it to be. Really light on carbonation and slightly viscous, kinda like wine.
Sure there are hints of lemon and cherry to this brew, but also a real blast of balsamic, just like the nose suggested. This beer is Nerds Rope Sour. I just can't get enough.
Unlike some other extremely sour beers, this one doesn't build up the vinegar slick in the back of your throat. You could drink more than one, I swear! Okay, maybe one and a half.
