Brewed in the tradition of a Flander Oud Bruin, the 2011 vintage pours a hazy, deep mahogany with red highlights around the edges. A quickly disappearing cap of light brown foam dies down to provide a solid amount of lacing. Powerful aromas of balsamic vinegar erupts from the glass and is joined with hints of oakiness and green apple. The nose of this brew leads the mouth to begin salivating in anticipation of the sourness awaiting the drinker! Some will complain that this beer tastes like vinegar, and we urge those people to take another sip. The depth of flavors provided in a sip of La Folie include tart cherries, oak, Brettanomyces, and green apple. All of these amazing sour flavors swirl over a base of light malt that provides enough sweetness to help reign in a touch of the sourness. Dry in the finish, La Folie is medium-light in body with a moderate level of carbonation.
