Consumed 08/23/08 at Weber's Place, Reseda, CA.

Slightly cloudy golden yellow pour in a standard pint glass. Little head, but what was there was creamy.

Aroma is a little peppery and grassy with a bready malt character.

Flavor is soft and easy to dismiss initially as bland. But careful attention to detail reveals a light peppery flavor, a malt character somewhere between caramel and toffee, some citric components and a light bitterness on a clean, though not parching, finish.

That pint was gone before I knew it. Funny, the bartender wanted me to taste a sip before allowing me to take possession of the pint, as the bar was awash in a sea of macro taps. I guess their patrons aren't used to drinking a beer as adventurous as this one (to the non BA palate, that is).

Skinny Dip is the absolute worst beer I've ever had. It tastes like cigarettes. I am at a loss as to how this beer has a score of 78 (at the time of this review). I made the severe mistake of buying a 12-beer New Belgium sampler pack that included this beer. I haven't liked a single New Belgium beer that I've ever tried.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Shaker pint glass, "Best Before" date 11-16-14.

APPEARANCE: pours clear with dark gold color, one finger off-white head that dissipated slowly to a thin broken layer of bubbles, slightly above average carbonation, there was a good amount of lacing.

SMELL: sweet caramel, bread, very subtle.

TASTE: the taste mostly follows the nose, initially sweet caramel, a very mild hop profile and then the taste of bread.

PALATE: this has a slightly higher than average amount of carbonation, medium body.

OVERALL: this beer is simple and inoffensive, if you served to a wide range of guests no one would complain but, there are better more exciting beers to be had, I enjoyed this beer but will probably not buy it again.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a dark golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of malts, biscuits. Taste is of caramel malts, hops are present, some biscuits, very easy drinking. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a fine choice on a hot summer night.

A: Clear, semi dark gold. Medium carb. Sticky dotted white lacing with low retention.

S: Wheat barley and a touch of tangy rye. Slightly sweet doughnut like bread.

T: Slightly sweet with a tangy rye bread. A little warm nutmeg taste through the middle. Finishes carbonic and watery. Quite clean with slight sour tang finish.

M: Mildly dry and good reasonably clean finish. Fairly thin.

T: Better than a macro light beer, but only by a slim margin. It sits in limbo between styles for me: If I want water I'll have water, if I want beer I'll drink something bigger.
