Appearance- Best by July 2009, poured into my Oregon Trail pint glass. I like that they explain how to pour a wit on the bottle as this is definitely a beer and style that beginners could get down with. I'm greeted by a nice two-finger head that laces well. Not the best head or lacing for the style, but adequate. The body of this beer appeared to be a fairly full straw/gold when I poured it in the kitchen, but now that I'm in a well lit room, this fucker is as thin as a coked out ballerina. All the haze has dropped out. It looks like I filled the glass half with lemonade, and half with water, with the water settling towards the bottom.
Smell- Musty, earthy wheat accompanied by orange zest, fresh cut lemons, pepper, and a hint of coriander. Very refreshing, zesty nose with the right portioning of each sent.
Taste- The wheat flavor is definitely the base of the taste with spices and citrus jumping in and out as they please. It's pretty much the same as the nose, but not as crisp or snappy, and has more coriander and pepper than citrus. It's good, but it needs a bit more punch.
MF- Thin bodied and a lack of carbonation makes this beer very refreshing, but more in a watery way than a nice cold beer on a hot day way. Finishes pretty clean and dry with a hint of citrus.
Drinkability- Goes down super easy, and has nothing really offensive about it. I wish it were more crisp, both in the feel, and the flavors, but I completely understand. NB has made a great wit for people to start out with. I had my white zin drinking mother sample this beer once, to which she proclaimed, "I could definitely drink that." Bingo, NB.
