They were practically giving this stuff away at the grocery store the other day, picked up a 12 pack. I'm excited to try this year's variation with the blend of Springboard and La Folie, it may be a 98:2 blend, but we'll see how different it is from last year.

A: Poured a pale straw, blond color, with a white head about an inch thick that slowly receded down to a film. Very cloudy.

S: Malty and bready up front, various sour highlights, some a bit on the citrus side, almost smells like roses, smells pretty light and crisp though.

T: Very malty, but fruity as well, there are a lot different things going on. There is also a faint bitterness at the end, probably from the wormwood and other herbs found in here. There are many different herb flavors interacting here. Very interesting, I can't quite taste the Folie in there, but this year's version is a bit more sour and a lot drier.

M: Crisp and refreshing, very nice dryness that begs for another drink, feels very nice in the mouth. Nice carbonation, great dry finish.

D: This is a pretty light beer from New Belgium, its easily drinkable, and goes well with a warm day. I can drink a fair amount of this stuff as well. Pretty good overall, but not one of their best.

12 oz from Bel Air

A - Golden, slightly watery looking, hazy, nice head, dissipates slow, and leaves nice legs.

S - Ginger, pine, apricot, and mango.

T - Ginger, pine, and mango esters.

M - Slightly earthy, light carbonation tickles, and leaves a trail of sweetness.

D - I really enjoyed the Mt. Hood hops. Very thirst quenching and not a bad session beer at 6.2.

A very light and clear straw yellow color, 2cm white head with some big lacy bubbles that lasted very well. A lot of active carbonation. The aroma was of lightly toasted, grainy, sweet malt with some herbal notes and some light skunky hops. Refreshing herbal notes right up front in the taste, not dominating but quite well in balance with the sweet and crisp grainy malt. Skunky and lemony hops provide a refreshing edge as well. The oak aged portion show up but is very subtle, i.e. barely detectable. The oats add to the sweet and smooth, honey like body of the beer.

Overall: this beer is very light in color, almost alarmingly light but the head looks great and redeemed the appearance a bit. This is a good session beer, sweet, refreshing, crisp and drinkable. Did the oak aged portion, use of oats and herbs make it a CRAZY good session beer? No. Would I buy it again? On a hot day I would certainly consider it.

A - Pours up a cloudy yellow with a thin white head, that dissipates slowly.

S - There is a slight smell of wheat. Ephemeral, but there.

T - nothing on the front, but there is a nice hop and grain flavor in the background. There is a hint of citrus in the finish with a bit of spice on the back of the tongue.

M - Slightly thin, but well carbonated

D - Extremely drinkable. Nice beer.

Meh. Like every other New Belgium beer, it was WAAAY better last year. Not sure what happens there, but without fail.... Had it on draft everyday last summer. This is my first bottle this year, and I was bummed by it.

A- Greenish straw yellow, quite bubbly with a detergent white head that bubbles up nicely, simmers down and vanishes leaving not much residual lacing. A nice color, though. With the addition of oats I was expecting a bit more body and head on this.

S- Not alot in the nose at first, but as it warmed it was citric, yeasty, with a nice hop balance in there. Not much aroma from the spices that I notice, but there is a spiciness to the nose that I assumed came from the hops.

T- The spices are slight and diminish quickly on the palate. There is a subtle hop dryness on the finish that is quite nice, but the rest of the beer has a clean, tart, residual sweetness, and the two don't seem to mesh well here. There is a definite presence of wheat that blends good with the yeast, but it could use a bit more of the added spices to really present itself better.

M- Acidic, tart, biting, and dry. IT feels nice, fresh, and clean in the mouth, leaving not much behind.

D- Good for warm weather, not great for taste this time around.

Pours a hazy yellow with a very small white head that quickly settles to a thin film. Just a little amount of lacing is left on the glass.

It smells of bready malts, grapes, and a little spice from the yeast.

It has the New Belgium taste. The musty, bready malt is the predominant flavor. It does possess a slight fruitness and spiceness. Very mild for a Belgian style ale. Finishes crisp and clean.

Has a light body with ample carbonation.

This would be a nice drinker on a hot day. Just better than average but it is inexpensive and readily available in a lot of areas.

This beer pours a clear pale golden color. The head is two inches in height, and recedes slowly into decent lacing. The aroma is of lemon zest, floral hops, lavender, berries, and a hint of caramel. The has more caramel than the aroma, with only hints of the berries, lavender, and floral notes. The mouthfeel is medium-light bodied with a very high level of carbonation which seems to get in the way a bit. Overall, this is a decent beer that I could drink again, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it.

T - Is pretty good like the smell wheaty malt spice and fruit

M - Has a lighter body with medium carbonation to it

D - Overall I say that this is a pretty good beer worth checking out sometime very easy to drink and it has a good taste too

The beer pours a yellowish color with a lasting big head. Mostly transluscent and thinnish looking. Smell is wheat and spices and somewhat witbier like. Taste is light malty, wheaty and mild with unique earthy spices. Not bad, really, but just decent.

A nice white head with medium to large bubbles. The liquid is a very light and a tad cloudy yellow with a smallish amount of micro-bubbles. The aroma it gave off was a pleasant beery smell, not heavy on any particular ingredient. The first taste gives forth a nice body and a nice smooth taste. Not overbearing in any degree. This beer is similar, but not quite, to others I've had from New Belgium. The feel in my mouth was one that left my tongue wanting another sip, ever so slightly dry. This is a nice well rounded beer with all of its assets in place and not overstated. It's smooth, flavorful and has "beer" written all over it. The head didn't dissipate, and hung around 'til the bottom of the mug along with the bubbles. This beer is great all the way through the sixpack.

Cloudy lemon with a fluffy, lasting head.

Smells citrusy and bready with a hop finish.

A number of tastes. Apple, floral, citric, spice, and a strange sharp hop twang. Has bread crust/biscuit flavors like other New Belgium brews. Solid balance. Flavor is a bit weird for me; but is growing on me.

Mouthfeel fine.

I don't know that I'll seek this out, but it was interesting and drinkable.

A- Golden in color. White head that quickly dissipates. Nicely carbonated

S- Fruit of some sort, apple. Perhaps a slight wormwood smell too.

T- No hoppiness. I get this apple like flavor.

M- Medium-light body. Very smooth.

D- I'd definitely have another. Nice thirst quencher for nice weather.

A friend brought this by and was interested after reading the label with the extra spicing and the aging in oak.

A-Golden color, reminded me of "sparkling" beverages with the amount of carbonation and the bright color
S-WormWwod smell, and some fruity scents, Almost smells bitter in the nose
T-Kind of generic pilsner like flavor of malt(not bready thought) with extra spices/fruit on top. These "spices" gave a bitter taste to the beer and something that I can't describe. It was not good to me and was getting worse as it warmed.
M-Felt good in the mouth being smooth yet carbonated
D-I barely drank this one let one more.

This was aninteresting beer as I think it is a well crafted beer per the appearance and mouthfeel but I didn't care for the flavors they added.

I got a six pack of this at Central Market in Dallas, Tx and poured it into a pint glass.
Appearance: A huge white head with a straw colored body having green highlights. It looks tasty. Great retention and superb lacing.
Smell: Apples, a bit stale, but very very tasty.
Taste: Apples in the front and back, malt complement, not much hop spice or citrus.
Mouthfeel: Mostly smooth but with spots or crispness.
Drinkability: Good.
Don't drink and review.

Pours a brigt sunshine, hay, banana peel mixture wih a consistant rush of bubbles and great thick lacing thathlds tight to the glass throughout he whole beer.The aroma is a dry blgia maltwith a slight herbal hint. Along with a yeasty start. The tart is a slightly sweet, yet dy pale malt with a spritz of lime and herbs. The finish is a bone dry hoppy splash mixed with that swet Belgian malt flair. A pretty bitter Belgian pale ale. But I love it. This is a great beer. And I love the mixing and blanding of herbs in this brew.

Appearance: Slightly hazy yellow, nice carbonation.

Smell: Yeasty, crackers, a little citrus, a little funk.

Taste: Light, citrus, bready yeast flavors and a touch of sour funk in the finish.

Drinkability: The one bottle I had went down easy, seems like several could be had in a sitting.

A pretty good beer, I think it would work well as a summer quencher also. Nice little funk notes give it something different than your general blonde or pale ale.

Mixed feelings here but overall not a bad brew (but not great).

A: yellow-gold, light, somewhat cloudy. Nice soft head and quite a bit of lacing left on glass.

S: soft, tart wheat aroma, doughy, also lemon notes. moderate yeast aroma as well. all of this is understated and a unassertive. Not particularly memorable but not unpleasant.

T: wheat and citrus and yeast prevalent. Tart, dry finish. like the nose, not assertive flavor, but light, refreshing. It does get a little boring after awhile.

M: good mouthfeel, smooth, good carbonation.

D: very good, easy drinking beer and enough happening to keep interest. Overall, I enjoyed the beer but wasn't outstanding and probably not going to seek out again.

A: Hazy yellow with a snowy head.
S: Citrus and grass.
T: Very lemony. Reminded me a lot of a Wheat, except it has a hint of the same herbs that are so overpowering in New Belgium's 2 Below winter brew. Whatever "Chinese herbs" they use, I just don't like it; it's a little weird for me.
M: High carbonation, dry finish.
D: This one is not for me. More of a personal preference than anything else, I think. The herbs just do not agree with me.

Glistening with a bright white head of one-finger's width, the color is that of an early harvest lemon, a tinge of green atop a haze of cloudy yellow. Pronounced lacing, a light fresh smell. Smooth mouthfeel with just enough crisp carbonation to liven the senses on a warm spring's late afternoon. No strong flavors, a touch of citrus, very drinkable but relatively unremarkable.

This is a pint poured at The City, a sports bar in downtown Portland.

A: Completely hazy, a milky wheat color with a scant head but with terrific bands of Belgian lace. 1-finger head falls quickly to a thin whitish cream.

S: Nothing to be excited over...just a thin malty/bready aroma that hints at lemon.

T: Upfront earthy/lightly woody pith. Chewy bread dough, with a light lemon/tart finish. The goji berry & wormwood in this are unfamiliar, but tasty.

M: Zesty, with a medium-light body that's carefully carbonated. Finishes clean and a little dry.

D. A good beer with many likable traits. Clean & fresh on-tap, east to consume. One I've had on a few occasions; pretty simple but very tasty.

New Belgium's just started bringing 12 ounce bottles into
the Minnesota market, and the best news of all is that they
are not all Fat Tire. Fr' instance-

New Belgium's Springboard Ale pours a stiff finger of creamy
foam over a slightly cloudy yellow brew. Carbonation is slow
but steady, and the nose is ale yeast and a bit of appetizing
sourness that can only be from the fraction of this ale which
was aged on wood. The flavor is light malts up front and an
interesting herbal finish, no doubt due to the Wormwood,
Lycium, and Schisandra cited on the label. There are also notes
of the same sour-to-velvet funkiness I've noticed in Flemish Reds
and Grand Cru's- just much more subtle. There's good lacing all
the way down the glass as the brew magically disappears, and
the mouthfeel round yet also crisp and with a bit of dryness. Once
again, New Belgium shows how to take a relatively basic brew and
do a little magic with it- Springboard was a real treat!

Was excited to see this at the corner store, I was thinking "I'd love some kind of spring time beer right now" and this jumped out at me.

At first I was very impressed. Great crisp light flavour with a little complexity and a very good drinkable taste. The color and smell are not anything special, but I think this beer is quite a success.

It has a light almost lager look and taste, but more carbonated and more body. It is not too sweet, but has a interesting flavour of herbs and creaminess.

I don't know what style profile they are going for, but it seems like a pretty good effort.

Perfect for a spring day in the sun, and enough alcohol to make you feel good about it.

I was expecting something more complex and interesting with the "brewed with" notes on the bottle. This beer is a disappointment to me in most respects.

For me, its best attribute was appearance. It poured very pale hazy yellow with a colorless white, fluffy cap. The head lasted pretty long, and left nice lacing.

Smell was faint but pleasant. I noted grass and herbs, maybe just a little bit of malts.

Taste was thin and weak. Again, grass and herbs with some bready malts on the aftertaste. Flavors are there, but seem watered down. I was hoping for something interesting from yeasts, being a "Belgian Pale," but didn't notice any. Fairly high carbonation made for a zesty, fresh, light mouthfeel.

To me, this beer lost the great aspects of either a good Belgian or a Pale Ale. At the cost of a typical craft brew, I won't be getting this again unless I hear they've gone back to the drawing board with the recipe.

Looks like a wit. Pale creamy white body with dim lemon yellow shades. Pure white cap of froth on top. Lacing is sufficient. Aroma has some wheat tang characteristics and a little lemon. Flavor is pretty lifeless. I'm not getting it here whatever "it" is. So this beer is brewed with Wormwood, Lycium, Schisandra, oats, ancient Chinese herbs, Mt. Hood hops and 2% of this ale was aged in Oak Barrels?? Why 2%? The flavor is gritty and dirty. Not very clean or refreshing. A weird kind of dryness lingers. This is not for me. Glad I only got a single.

The Springboard poured a hazy yellow with a 1/2 finger head with some splat lacing. The head disappeared pretty quickly. It had a drink by date.

The aroma was spicy and hard to put a finger on what they were. The bottle mentions wormwood and some other ingredients that are not normal in my vernacular. It did have a nice yeasty smell.

Taste was malty with a semi bitter back end.

In the mouth is was well carbonated and left a slight bitter mark. It is a very refreshing beer that could easily be a session on a hot day.
