One of the first beers in the Lips of Faith series. Also know as Pat's Stout. Pours a mostly black color with some good clarity. A soft eggshell colored head with decent retention and lacing.
The nose has a light malty aroma with a light roast aroma. Some noticeable chocolate note and a hint of coffee. Some spicy notes as well, pepper and a bit of spring grass as well. Clean yeast.
The taste is toned down. Some roast character but limited. Some astringency but limited. Some bready notes as well. The yeast comes out a bit more. A weird pepper note on the back end.
The body is light. Would have liked more from a stout. The malt is limited and the yeast is a bit clean. More is better

Falling Rock put this on tap. Noted as a Belgian Stout, the Belgian Dark Ale is the closest category I could find.
Pours a black, a bit hazy body. Head is a bit tan, not very big or dense. A bit soapy.
Smell of chocolate and rich spice yeast come through in the nose. Not much coffee, if any. An interesting start, I've never had a Belgian stout.
Taste: coffee comes through, chocolate is laid aside. Yeast still there, which makes the mouthfeel a bit velvety. The roasted characteristics of a stout are muffled by the yeast and spices.
Feels a bit carbonated and tinglely.
Not a bad brew. I liked it, just a bit odd.
