Pours a clear, pale-amber with a huge, white head consisting of lots of tight little bubbles. A nice amount of lacing clings to the glass well after each sip.

The aroma smells of crisp, pale malt alongside a nice bouquet of hop notes; pleasant, floral and faintly grassy.

The flavor delivers, as the aroma would suggest, an excellent, well-rounded brew. The malt flavor is subtle and contains notes of biscuit and honey. The hops provide a perfect balance- just the right amount of fresh, herbal bitterness. A wonderful, lightly sweet aftertaste lingers on the palate.

Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with adequate carbonation.

This is a very drinkable beer. Well-balanced and of well-balanced, toned-down flavor.

Too often, I think American craft breweries take an overly hop-bitter approach to pale (leaving the IPA wondering where it stands). I think this is an excellent example of what pale ale should taste like.

12 oz. bottle, with best by date June 15, 2014 printed on the label. Another new beer to me from New Belgium, acquired as part of the spring folly pack.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Pours a brassy golden orange colored body with excellent clarity and two fingers of fluffy white head. Nice stringy scattered lacing. Looks very nice.

S - Smell is of bready biscuit malts and some pungent grapefruit / pine / citrus hop presence. Subtle peppery yeast presence also noticeable. A tame, but pleasant aroma.

T - Taste follows the nose - bready honeyed malt paired with a light earthy / piney / grapefruit hop bitterness. Lightly grainy. Nicely balanced. No alcohol detectable.

M - Feel is smooth, crisp, and clean. Light honeyed breadiness lingering on the palate. Lightly sticky. Medium bodied with good carbonation.

Overall, a very nice easy drinking pale ale from New Belgium. Nicely balanced, with a well-hidden, moderate 6.00% abv. Nothing spectacular or groundbreaking here, but it is good solid drinking.

Clear gold color, small white head but nicely bubbly with some sticky lace. Aroma is lightly sweet, saltine crackers, soft floral hop, hint of pilsener-like spice, bread dough, and a smidge of lemon. Flavor is very similar. No surprises. Mouthfeel is smooth, lightly resinous and a weeee bit syrupy over a light body. Bitterness is light but does exist just enough for some added excitement. Not bad. Nice clean flavors.

Notes from 03/09/14

Nice to see this one rereleased…

A: Golden amber with near perfect clarity. Lively with bubbles visibly streaming upwards into a thick sudsy off-white head. Holds together quite well leaving back sticky sheets and dots of lace on the glass.

S: Smells of fresh piney hops on the nose followed by a fruity combo of apricot, peach, and tangerines. There is some underlying bready malt aromatics as well. The fresh green hops and fruit notes are fairly expressive however which is nice.

T: Follows in line of the aroma with some bright and fresh piney hops, tangerine, and lots of juicy apricot/peach notes. Firm malt base brings that familiar honey sweet bread like that in most of NB’s beers. Moderate to upper level of perceived bitterness with the alcohol pretty much fully disguised. Nicely hopped with the refreshing apricot fruit additions.

M: Smooth and creamy texture with ample carb here. Moderate fill from the body. Light peppery bitterness. Nice clean and crisp action on the finish. Clean and not so resinous.

D: A nice and sessionable pale ale that offers up a slightly unique twist of Apricot. Nice fresh hops here is what attracts me the most. But I find this much like most of NB’s lineup; above average and nothing I couldn’t live without.
