Received in a recent trade from nkersten. Nice name...they spelled it wrong, but I'll let them slide this time. I'm a fan of the La Folie and have heard very good things about this one. Wasn't planning on cracking it open at this point in time, but I have a trip to Idaho in a couple of days and will be driving through Denver...figured I'd better give it a shot in case I need to stop and try to pick up some more.
Split with my wife and poured into my Stone snifter. Bright golden yellow with a good sized stark white head. Surprisingly a decent amount of lace is left on the glass as this one is slowly put away.
Smells funky - nice Brett notes that aren't overpowering. A tinge of sweetness on the nose as well, but I certainly couldn't place it as peach juice. I enjoy the smell of this - smells like it is going to be tart...
And tart it is...not overpowering, by any means, but a definite funkiness. The tart is well balanced with a very mild sweetness. It actually works quite well, oscillating back and forth between the tart and the sweet. I would classify the sweetness as fruity - not necessarily peaches (as far as I can tell), but some orange and lemon perhaps. I enjoy the astringency of this beer...I could drink quite a bit of it without slowing down. Crisp, thirst-quenching, and refreshing. Looks like I'll be making a pit stop in fort Collins on the way home.
