Notes/Commercial Description:
In a never-ending quest to create new beers and defy category, New Belgium Brewing and Brewerij Boon of Belgium have partnered together again to create Transatlantique Kriek - a spontaneously fermented lambic ale made with Polish cherries.

This authentic kriek beer began life in the oaken vessels at Frank Boon's brewery in the Lembeek region of Belgium. After more than two years aging, Boon's offering shipped across the Atlantic and found its way to the intuitive palate of New Belgium's Brewmaster Peter Bouckaert. After much sampling and internal consultation, Peter and his brew staff created a full-bodied golden lager to round out the light-bodied kriek.

The cherry nose gives way to a pleasingly sour flash across the palate that rolls gently into a slightly sweet finish. Crisp, effervescent carbonation keeps the mouthfeel bright and delightfully tingly.

Shared by someone at Francois cellar party.

No head, pink hazy color.

Nose has wafts of light cherry barely, little tart, sweet syrupy cough syrup.

taste is pretty bland, light sour cherries, very light overall cherry profile, light sourness, cough syrup, syrupy flavors.

Mouth is med to lighter bodied, feels a bit thin, lighter carb.

Overall meh, very light for a kriek, very light sour and little cherry, some cough syrup flavors too.

22 oz. bottle purchased at Connecticut Ave. Wine and Liquors in NW D.C., unknown bottling date but 2014 vintage, poured into my The Bruery "Rue the Day" tulip glass, drank over an hour

A: 3/3 - ruby red coloration; low clarity (cannot see through); initial pink frothy head gives way to subtle glass lacing that reagitates on swirling; moderate alcohol legs

S: 8/12 - big cherry nose; moderate medicinal character; some alcohol; no hops or yeast aroma to speak

T: 12/20 - again, cherry flavor and sweetness right up front, but unfortunately, there isn't much of the advertised tartness; continued cherry flavors and sweetness with some residual lingering but finishes generally dry and inviting; moderate alcohol and yeast (estery) notes; no hop bitterness/flavor

M: 4/5 - moderate carbonation for style; slight chewiness; alcohol coating proves fullness

O: 7/10 - decent American kriek that unfortunately lacks complexity, especially when tart flavors are advertised; also not worth the ~$15 price point in the Washington DC area; I probably won't be returning

TOTAL - 34/50

A: Cherry red, fruit punch bright, lots of carbonation, 2 fingers of Pepto Bismol pink foamy head. It fades fast but leaves a lace like coating on the glass.

S: Cherries, raspberry vinegar, sour, funky lambic quality, fruity, sour, lactic quality. Macaroni and cheese.

T: Lightly bitter as in the aftertaste of an artificial sweetner, lightly sour, lightly sweet, red fruit but it seems more like raspberry at first than cherry, though there is some cherry and cherry blossom in this as well. Cherry comes out more as it warms. Not getting the high alcohol on it, making it dangerous, though there is a burn in the throat.

M: Thick sour fruity body, lots of soda like carbonation.

O: Nice attempt by an American brewery at a Belgian classic. My first lambic from the USA. It feels midway between a dry lambic like Cantillons, and a sweetened version like Lindemans. Got in Raleigh Wholefoods, drank in Clyde, NC.
