Notes/Commercial Description:
In a never-ending quest to create new beers and defy category, New Belgium Brewing and Brewerij Boon of Belgium have partnered together again to create Transatlantique Kriek - a spontaneously fermented lambic ale made with Polish cherries.

This authentic kriek beer began life in the oaken vessels at Frank Boon's brewery in the Lembeek region of Belgium. After more than two years aging, Boon's offering shipped across the Atlantic and found its way to the intuitive palate of New Belgium's Brewmaster Peter Bouckaert. After much sampling and internal consultation, Peter and his brew staff created a full-bodied golden lager to round out the light-bodied kriek.

The cherry nose gives way to a pleasingly sour flash across the palate that rolls gently into a slightly sweet finish. Crisp, effervescent carbonation keeps the mouthfeel bright and delightfully tingly.

"45% ale with cherries added and 55% ale." 8% ABV confirmed. 1 pint 6 fl oz brown glass bottle with standard branded pressure cap acquired at Lukas Liquor and served into a Guinness goblet in me friend's gaff in low altitude Castle Rock, Colorado. Reviewed live. Expectations are low given its current ratings.

A: Pours a two finger wide pink colour head. Decently creamy. Somewhat supple. Soft. Nice thickness. Decently frothy.

Body colour is a clear dark red. Translucent and transparent. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.

Looks pretty good for the style. I've seen worse.

Sm: Light sourness - mostly from lacto. Cherry syrup. Fruity. A bit artificial.

No yeast character or alcohol is detectable. I don't get any malts either.

An average strength aroma.

T: I like the sourness, but the fruitiness is syrupy and artificial. Quite simple for a kriek. It's not bad, but it's far from great. Balance is okay, though it's too sugary. Reminiscent of juice.

No yeast character or alcohol comes through. Not getting any maltiness.

Lacks complexity and subtlety.

Mf: Smooth and wet. Clean. Suits the flavour profile decently. Good carbonation. Suits the flavour profile okay.

Dr: Drinkable. I wouldn't get it again. Overpriced. A disappointment from New Belgium.

Low C+

A: This poured a clear cherry red with a little pink head.
S: It smelled like cherry pie with sugary wheat bread and honey and a bit of oak.
T: It tasted like sweet cherries and honey, with some oak and earthy wheat bread. It had a clean mild aftertaste.
M: It was slightly thick with a little carbonation. Kind of weak body.
D: This was a mild dessert beer, but the scent and taste and body were all a little disappointing. At least the alcohol was well hidden and the finish was smooth, so it was easy to drink. But it wasn't much worth drinking. Not recommended.
