Had a bottle at my brothers...poured into a Perfect Pint.

A=Very faint yellow...not appealing.

S=Faint whiff of hops...wheat?

T=What little flavor that was there was not very appealing...reminded me more of water than beer...MGD is better.

M=Too watery.

O=Probably the worst beer I've had this year...all I can think of was that it was old stock, but it was horrible.

"In a category all its own, Loft Beer delivers an uplifting zest, a taut line of hoppiness, and, from integrated wheat and barley malt, a mouthful as big as the sky." Brewed in the style of a Belgian Pale Ale. Previously a seasonal from 2002 until its discontinuation, loft was revived exclusively for a pack-in with the Summer 2013 Folly variety pack.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to the New Belgium Globe glass. Served above 47º Fahrenheit.

(Appearance) Pours a golden-white head of a frothy consistency over a sunset orange-amber body. Carbonation is plentiful yet light, a mild haze is the only impediment to the clarity that this beer has. Retention is average, lacing is thin and patchy. 3.5

(Smell) Malt bill is light cereal grain, musty wheat bill adds some unique dimension. Herbal, grassy hop blends provide a matching bitterness and aroma. Mild dry fruit lends a subtle acidity and a light tartness. Altogether it's a delicate aroma, but one with a bit more hop presence and bitterness than I'm used to in New Belgium's lighter Belgian Pale-inspired offerings. 3.25

(Taste) Mild, unsweetened pale grain malt with just a hint of wheat for body, very herbal and tea-like in its lightness. Hop notes linger by the wayside- musty, herbaceous and mildly peppery- reminiscent of Ranger IPA's hop selection. Hop bitterness and flavor are more subdued than in the aroma but certainly provide their fair share of bitterness to round out the flavor. Not a lot of fruit sugars and the malt profile is dry and thin. This is a very light-drinking Belgian Pale, more Americanized than the style traditionally implies in both a high hop presence and a passive yeast profile for a notable cleanliness. Perhaps a bit too mundane for some, but low gravity and a tame malt body and sweetness makes it a highly quaffable ale, especially in the dog days of summer. It's a good thing they give you four. An acceptable crossover option for those tiptoeing from macro lager staples to lighter-flavored ales. 3.5

(Mouthfeel) Slick, thin, moderate chalky dryness. A touch of hop resin and a very mild acidity, otherwise incredibly clean. Carbonation adds a profound crispness to excite the texture. The body is light for the style, light+ overall. Alcohol presence is very light, just keeps fairly low. 3.25

(Overall) I don't doubt that New Belgium retired this beer to jump aboard the hoppier and more flavorful beer bandwagon, but this little piece of New Belgium's history is a testament to the delicacy and appeal of their lighter-flavored beers. I found the hop character a bit hefty for the remaining flavor of this beer especially if it intends to play true to style, although I can appreciate thinking outside the box. If you are looking for a light-drinking session summer ale, you may be pleasantly surprised by this beer. 3.5
