Golden yellow with a moderate, short-lived white head. Good clarity. Nose is mainly fruity hops with minimal malt. Immediately noticeable flavors are pale malts and light citrus hops. Finish is slightly bitter with some spicyness, presumably from the rye. A surprisingly sturdy mouthfeel to this beer also - crisp, not watery. Not often you can say that about an American Blonde Ale.
This beer had plenty going on for a self-described Golden Ale, with some APA-like characteristics. The most enjoyable example of this style I have had in awhile. Not sure a different name isn't in order, as this is more of a summer beer in my opinion. But it definitely exceeded my expectations.
