New Belgium Ranger is citric, yeasty, and bready.
It poured pale gold with a two-finger white head; lots of lace held onto the glass from top down. The smell and flavor were immediately very citric with a yeasty metallic finish, that seems to be a characteristic of New Belgium, lingering for a long time on the tongue. As the ale warmed, the citrus flavor faded and the yeast asserted itself. There was a lot of carbonation and otherwise, the feel was thick and bready -- also a characteristic of New Belgium -- with very little bitterness.
Ranger made a good first impression, with a sharp appearance and an explosion of citrus; however, both faded and it closed out as bland, bready, and metallic.
