Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tulip glass.
A: Clear, light amber color with over one finger of persistent eggshell foam head that slowly diminishes to a solitary iceberg. Heavy lacing remains on the glass.
S: Intense volatile pine, fresh grass, lightly toasted bread--a very attractive, yet clean, smell.
T: Begins dry, dominated early by toasted grain, but featuring only muted--even timid--floral and grassy hop flavors. A mineral quality emerges in a middle that periodically finds itself devoid of any noteworthy flavor. Aromatic hops return in the moderately bitter finish, while the mineral flavor carries though.
M: Thin viscosity, wet but also slightly sticky on the palate, with moderate carbonation.
D: This IPA is a lightweight when it comes to taste, featuring a flavor profile that just can't live up to the remarkable smell. Clean flavor qualities are taken too far at times, with only the finish really representing the style faithfully. Among its peers Ranger is boring; an IPA with training wheels. The flavors will vanish completely in the company of assertive food flavors. It is genuinely appealing to sniff and to gaze upon, though.
