Picked some up my last trip stateside. Enjoyed a bottle while down there, getting around to reviewing another tonight before watching my dad's cousin's son compete for a medal in skeleton. Anyways on to the beer, pale amber, lightly carbonated, gave a half finger of off white head that tried to stick around, but has broken down to leave a sticky collar. Decent, intricate sticky lacings.
I really like the nose on this one. Lots of hops, citrus, some grapefruit, a bit more pine, dominate the softer malt aromas. A touch of biscuit straight out of fat tire is present, a lighter amount of caramel, and some pale malts.
Oily orange peel mixes with a touch of tangerine then gives way to ruby red grapefruit before pine resin takes over. Good stuff here. The malts are pretty much as described above, and let the hops be the showcase here. I like how the dominant malt note is the muted biscuit and while its getting beat up by the hops isnt that the whole point?
Yes this is dry. Its bitter, its somewhat resinous (enjoyed the hops in my mouth the following day). Its also got a fair bit going on in terms of aroma, and does a very solid job of showcasing the hops. Fairly light in body.
This is very drinkable for me and my tastes. I look forward to getting more and seeing how a six pack goes down, because im having no issues knocking a bottle back and wishing i had another one ready to go. Sure there are better IPAs out there, but i suspect you would be hard pressed to find a better one with the availability and distribution that this one has. I highly recommend this to hopheads, it may be a touch too aggressive for the newbies.
