From bottle into a new Delirium Tremens tulip
Visual (3): Great golden IPA colour with perfect clarity. Consistent stream of carbonation bubbles around the centre of the beer. Small head that disappears before it begins. Fairly average, gains points for style adherence but loses points for lack of outstanding qualities
Aroma (4): The cascade and chinook hops are present with pine, light citrus, and grassy notes. The malts are almost non-existent behind the hop mix.
Taste (3): Obviously bitter flavour punctuated by the mix of hops resulting in the self-professed 70 IBU. Malt flavours are light and could be a little more prominent in order to add a degree of complexity to the hop domination. Good for the style, but no real extra points.
Mouthfeel (3): Dry and slightly coarse on the pallet, Ranger asserts its IPA bitterness with a mouthfeel that leaves a coarse hop bitterness on the tounge. Again, good but unremarkable.
Overall (3.5) Ranger is a good offering from New Belgium but wholey average in the world of hop heavy IPAs. The balanced mix of hops results in a satisfyingly hoppy ale with little malt balancing. Added complexity, either in hops or malt balancing could increase the overall score.
I should note that I followed Ranger with Hoptober, a Golden Ale by New Belgium with decent hop flavours. The Hoptober blew Ranger out of the water both in hop complexity and balancing with malt flavours. A better go to for me.

Poured into pint glass.
A - lite translucent golden straw color. 1 1/2 finger head that lingered a bit. Good lacing all the way down. A lotof bubbles
S - Right off the bat got a lot of fruity smells (grapefruit, pineapple, lemon) and piney hops. With a floral note. Toasted malt too
T - straight up grapefruit and piney taste just awesome. got the bitterness too, but just the right amount. Perfect mix of malt and hops.
M - medium light feel with a dry bubbly finish bitterness is perfecr
O - a great IPA imo. I have heard mixed things about this one but I really enjoyed it. I have been sticking with boulevards Mid West ipa but this is giving it a run for its money for sure!
