This is one of my favorite beers! It is in my top 3 IPAs. A very west coast type IPA, which I apparently love. Fabulous citrus and floral fragrance and flavor. Quite bitter with a strong grapefruit flavor. Not as balanced and some may prefer, definitely on the hoppy side. But for me, this is a great IPA. I recommend this to anyone who likes a hoppy IPA. Although I am tempted to keep trying new IPAs, and I do, I still manage to always pick up a 6-er of Ranger a few times a years. Long live Ranger.

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass.

Gold Color with a thin, white head. The head didn't stick around for too long, but the beer left some lacing on the glass as I was drinking. Clear with bubbles visible rising in several columns from the bottom of the glass.

Definite hop aroma... it wasn't strong...but I could also be congested right now.

Flavor - hops dominate. Some malt balance but mainly hops leaving a hops after taste lingering after the mostly dry finish.

Overall - it's good...not out of this world good, but a good beer.

12oz bottle, enjoy by 08 June 14. Poured into a Libby globe porter glass. Label is the ranger hat full of hops.

Appearance: Clear gold to light amber color, with a think white skin of foam across the top. Initial 1/4" foam died back pretty quickly to the skin of foam. Sheets and strands of persistent lacing noted. A good amount of bubbles coming up through the beer. Nice looking beer. With a swirl the lacing still sticks around.

Smell: Interesting, but not what I was expecting. Not as hoppy aromatic as advertised. Some pine and citrus, but mostly herbal and a notable, but not bad, onion flavored potato chip smell.

Taste: Hoppy, but not overly so. Hops up front and at the end, with a clean cracker-like malt in the middle. Hops have some pine and grapefruit, but strong grassy/herbal flavor as well. Definite strong bitter finish. Gets better as it warms up - the flavors become stronger but not necessarily different. They just contrast better.

Mouthfeel: Crisp carbonation, with some lingering hop oils sticking to the teeth. A little watery underneath.

Overall / Drinkability: Hmmm...I think I like my IPAs with more malt and more aromatic hops. Full flavored, but not amazing. A middle of the pack, but hop forward IPA.

Pours a brilliant golden copper with a frothy ivory head that lingers.

Doughy malt, pine, and citrus form the aroma. Pine dominates.

Flavor reveals fresh cut grass initially, with a toasted malt backbone, finishing fairly bitter. Grass is definitely dominant. There's a hint of grapefruit pith. Citrus becomes more pronounced as it warms.

Body and carbonation are moderate, with light alcohol warmth and significant astringency.

Somewhat one-note. Good balance of malt and flavoring hops, but too bitter for my liking.

A) poured from a 12oz bottle into glassware, Ranger poured a clear copper color with a sub 1/2 finger head that quickly settled and did not leave much lacing to speak of

S) nice bouquet some sweet malt that almost has a jolly rancher smell, some nice piney hops, some grapefruit and other tropical fruits

T) malt is sweeter than most but has a bit of biscuit and toast, hops come through much like the smell with pine, citrus, and a hint of tropical fruit. Nice balanced finish.

M) nice thickness, a bit oily from hop resin (this is good), and nice carbonation - pretty drinkable for an IPA

O) Ranger is a solid IPA that offers some interesting hop flavors with a fairly sweet malt background. Hops could be a little more assertive, in fact this beer is pretty tame, but this would be a good beer to introduce someone new to the style.
