Poured slowly into an Imperial pint glass.
No head whatsoever. Really beautiful copper color.
Smell, dry malt, some lemon, but nothing leapt out (maybe my nose was not working right after work with solvents today).
Tastes interesting - unlike anything - perhaps distantly reminiscent of Alaska Spruce Ale - but the Juniper was not the steamroller flavor I expected. Juniper there for sure, putting on a solid baseline to the floral bitterness of the Amarillo Hops. Then there's some rye into the barley malt. Then there's the lemon and orange peel, nicely under-done, but plays a light sky over the forest of deep flavor.
Finnish is the nationality of this brew.
Finish is long lasting and complex, sweet and bitter, and deep in the forest of beer flavors. Does not anesthetize the tonsils. I think the finish of this beer is one of the best things about it. An alpine meadow of herbal flavors. Since the scoring system here doesn't allow any weight for this category, my review will be lower.
Flavor was good. But this isn't a session beer. It is something to sip and savor.
7.2% ABV makes it a strong ale, and it is.
I liked it a lot, but an honest score for this beer is not possible in the beer advocate system.

Served from bottle into a New Belgium globe. Poured red-orange with a half finger off-white head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, BIG wheat, BIG grain, spice, and big sweetness. The flavor was of sweet malt, spices, grain, subtle tea, sugar, and earth. It had a light feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this was a decent brew. With this being my first brew from the style I can honestly say that I don’t have a refined palate for this style, however, I was not a massive fan of it. The aroma was very sharp when it came to sweetness/maltiness. The flavor was a little bit better with a bit more balance. That was a very welcomed change as based on the aroma, I was rather concerned once I smelled it. Glad I got the chance to try this one though, but don’t think I will go out of my way to do so again.
