Pours a mostly clear chocolate brown color with a big, foamy beige head. Aroma of banana, clove, caramel malts, chocolate, sweet bread, and spices. Flavor of banana, sweet bread, caramel, nuts, toast, mild spices, and brown sugar. Medium-bodied, with a good deal of soft carbonation and a sweet bready mouthfeel. Good dunkelweizen.

A: poured into a tulip glass this dunkelweiss pours a dark burgundy/brown with about one finger of tan head that dissipates rather quickly leaving nice lacing.

S: quite complex I picked up root and malt with a bit of spice, the gf said it smelt like the wort at NB.

T: lots going on here, get the lightness of the weiss but also some peppery spice as well, there were moments when i felt like I was drinking german chocolate cake.

M: very crisp, does not coat the mouth

O: overall I was a bit skeptical of this beer as this is not my preferred style but New Belgium Lips of Faith series continues to impress and at $5.99 this will be added to my everyday 22oz beers.

A- This beer poured a dark chocolate amber. The tan head was very thick (about three fingers), had great retention, and left chunky lacing.

S- Banana attacked the nose immediately. Underneath that was a hint of clove and alcohol. Quite lovely indeed.

T- The banana from the nose is back and this time it brought some more complexity. Chocolate, bread, and black pepper all tantalize the tongue until some subtle dry hops hamper the sweetness. Very well-balanced indeed.

M- Medium bodied with thin-to-medium carbonation. So far the only lackluster quality of this beer.

D- This is dangerously sessionable. The flavors don't fatigue the palate at all and the medium body goes down smoothly. I could drink this all day. Hats off to New Belgium for this beauty.

A - Poured a dark reddish brown/amber color with two to 3 fingers of tan head. Good retention and mild lacing

S - Roasted banana and clove. Very inviting.

T - Banana, chocolate, and clove (plus a bit more I can't put my finger on, maybe coffee) with a peppery finish. Roasted malts. Not a lot of alcohol in the taste.

M - Creamy but not too heavy. Light to medium carbonation. Rounded nicely.

D - The sweet flavor is kind of cut short after each sip allowing the sweetness to not become overwhelming. Very drinkable despite the 9% alcohol.

Delicious Dunkelweizen. Well rounded, not overpoweringly sweet or alcoholic. That 9% does build though, only thing holding back drinking this all day.

Appearance - Pours fairly dark with a nice creme colored head that almost seems like nitro. Almost looks like a soda in color.

Smell - Lots of fruit and spice in the smell. I smell mostly banana and clove.

Taste - Flavor is very similar to the smell. Taste banana and a delicious aftertaste that lingers around.

Mouthfeel - I was surprised by the amount of carbonation, it was a lot more then I was expecting. But it really worked well and helped the flavor stick around.

Overall - I really enjoyed this beer! Normally I am not a huge fan of "spicy" beers but this was really good. You really can't taste the high ABV at all and it is very drinkable. I will definitely be buying a few more for my stockpile.

Bought this beer while i was in NC and brought it back to Florida.

This beer is darker than most Dunkel's i've had (with Weihenstephan's being my main benchmark). Upon first taste i was surprised by just how spiced this beer was. It also has a much stronger malty kick that puts it much closer to being a great winter beer than i would consider most dunkel weiss.

All in all, grab one and share it with a friend.
