Notes/Commercial Description:
This pleasing, two-part, potion was brewed with chocolate and black malts for a rich and roasty overtone, then fused with a dry, substratum of sour for a bold and audacious flavor. Black as night, this beer is blended at 80% stout, 20% dark sour wood beer for a collaboration that begins with a sour edge and finishes with a big, dark malt character, lingering, sweet on your palate.

22oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a smallish light tan head that goes to a thin film and leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is some roasted chocolate malts, leather and tart, sour dark fruits.

The flavor is some roasted earthy malts and molasses with a good amount of tart fruity sourness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, a nice mellow dark fruit sour with a bit of roast.

Dark brown with some ruby highlights, large-bubbled head that has good stick. Nice look and unique for a sour type of brew.

The nose is maltier than funky. Chocolate notes, a hint of roasted malt, some vanillin, and dark fruits. Only a touch of vinegar indicates that anything wilder than normal is going on.

Subtlety rules the palate as well, with a moderately sweet chocolate flavor, somewhat thin mouthfeel, a touch of lactose, and similar notes of cherry and vanilla from the nose. Fruity, no hop notes, with a mild balsamic vinegar hit towards the back end.

Body is too thin to be world class, an interesting premise but not quite followed through on.

Pours jet black with a light tan head. In the aroma, a small roast and a small tartness. In the taste, roasty, notes of coffee, and a light tartness. A small sour bite and medium bodied mouthfeel, with a dry roast and note tartness in the aftertaste. Kind of a tart porter is the best way to put it.
