Stopper by Poor Richards on my way to the airport for a quick pint. This was the best beer available. Drank from a generic pint glass.
Appearance- Pours a crystal clear straw yellow with a nice creamy bright white head with some serious staying power. Loads of lacing is left in its cool ring like fashion.
Smell- Not overly hoppy smelling buy there are hints of some citrusy tones. A touch of grapefruit and banana surprisingly mix very well. Obviously the yeast plays a part in here adding the light banana tones along with a spicy sort of earthiness. Pretty nice all in all but it smells slightly under hopped.
Taste- Welp, scratch that. Maybe the yeast sort of scrubs the hoppy smell because it's plenty hoppy. Nice crisp bitter bite out of the gate that is very much full of grapefruit pith and orange peel. Unlike the nose the yeast really takes the backseat here adding just a hint of those banana tones. A touch of sweetness in the finish with some light doughy malt.
Mouthfeel- Crisp carbonation on a lighter body with a nice crisp finish.
Drinkability- Surprisingly tasty beer that is deliciously hoppy and a welcome surprise at this place. I’m starting to like these Belgium IPA's more and more and this is a better version of the style. Nice beer!
